just purchased a cheapy "jazz" copy off the bay... random issue with pots switching function?

the master tone pot goes from killing the volume on both pickups one minute to adjusting the tone the next min and the neck pickup pot then assumes the role of killing all the volume??


It baffles me lol

(not the greatest but the auction I won was £61 delivered, I adjusted the truss rod a considerable amount and then set the action nice and low and it plays reasonably well now but has a p bass width neck so is not the quickest)


any ideas on my electrical issue? plan is to junk all the electrics eventually and pre amp it but for now I would like to resolve this issue.

may be wired incorrectly being a factory second. Just check to see that it is wired as follows (ignore the pot values)

i'd wager there's some bridged contacts on the pots.

RIght I checked the wiring diagram and it looks the same. how would I check for bridged contacts?

All sorted now thankfully. I get a hell of alot of hiss when I turn the tone up though, is this normal for single pole jazz pickups? (especially cheap chinese ones I imagine)

Unfortunately, yes.

Almost all hiss and buzz can be reduced if not eliminated by shielding and earthing all the cavities in the bass! I find conductive shielding paint to be the easiest method.

Even cheap basses can be relatively noise free

Luckily I have some copper tape from when I did my cort gb74 and my Pbass project so will do the jazz aswell cheers
