Paul S
at a small local venue. What a great night! George Anderson is a name I don't think I have read on here before but he is very good. He plays slap most of the time, generally a deep growly rumble rather than biscuit tin down the stairs stuff (although he does a bit of showboating). I actually prefer his finger style playing. But the whole band were superb. He is a vid from a few yrs ago - they sound exactly the same. 'Dont Say That Again', the second track on this clip, I think is lovely. lowdown
George A is a nice player, I remember when he took over from the original Bassist back in the 80's, The band suddenly took off, he got his foot in the door very quickly and he married Jill Saward one of the singers. [Although i think it ended in divorce] I think Jayedee made a sig Bass for him. Garry
Pete Academy
I've always liked Shakatak, although a lot of people think it's muzak. George was always in Mark King's shadow. He has got a signature JD.
pnefc42
He has indeed - it's the unsurprisingly named GA24 (no guessing how many frets then!) Was he playing the JD last night Paul? Paul S
He certainly was. Beautiful tone - real depth and growl to the sound that you sometimes lose with slappers. I somehow missed seeing them live 30 yrs ago, even though I liked the music, yet I saw Mark King and Level 42 a handful of times (and again soon). I can't honestly say I think George is an inferior player - he has a very good touch indeed. I don't think he does the fast flashy slap stuff as well as Mr King, but all the rest perhaps better? All IMO, of course.

Pete Academy
I'm sure those slapped bass parts would sound ad good finger style,.but at the time slap was well in vogue.
