JamieMillsBass
Hi Folks, My girlfriend has just landed the nearest thing to her dream job in Bristol so once I get a job over there myself I'll be heading over. I'll be looking to get a band on the go when I get over there so I just wondered if anyone has any info on

Any websites that cover the scene as a whole or the heavier side of the scene
Any venues places to go see gigs/meet new musicians
music schools etc where I can get myself some theory lessons
a list of heavier bands currently gigging
Have had a look on google etc and am not seeing much info but thats not to say it's not there! Anything else would be of great help! Cheers, Jamie
flyfisher
I've not been to Bristol for decades but the son of one of our band members got involved in The Bristol Couch last year during his music course there ( and was subsequently signed up by Columbia, but that's another story). Might be worth checking it out. http://www.bristolcouch.com/wordpress_bc/
TheRev
Check out The Croft, it's where most of the local metal bands seem to play.
Gust0o
Shockwave would know, I imagine - I think he's just moved from Bristol, and I seem to remember his tastes being of the heavier nature. Might be worth dropping him a PM?
Mr. Foxen
I'm pretty involved with the metal scene. Promoters: https://www.facebook.com/endlesspainpromotions?ref=ts https://www.facebook.com/pages/Whereshegonepromotions/280679401962508?ref=ts Metal pub/venue, where I hang out being beardy and long haired: https://www.facebook.com/gryphonbristol?ref=ts
Spike Vincent
If you want to trundle over the Severn Bridge, the South Wales Metal scene is quite busy.
Mace
There's a pretty good metal scene in Brissle I reckon, lots of metal pubs and nights for what we Bristolians used to call "Jitters" - www.metaltravelguide.com/europe/england/south-west/bristol/ Check out my drummer mate's band Mind For Murder, I think they're pretty heavy - https://www.facebook.com/MFMUK - they're playing at Brisfest in September if you're in this neck of the woods already - www.brisfest.co.uk Another guitarist mate's band Metalhead are worth a look too - https://www.facebook.com/metalheadcovers?ref=ts, the bassist is pretty hot too (no it's not me!) Re school - http://www.bimm.co.uk/bristol/ Venues wise, The Hatchet, The Croft as Mr F mentioned and The Gryphon too, the Full Moon on Stokes Croft used to be a metal pub, not sure now though sorry. Bristol's pretty lucky music wise, lots of bands including heavier ones play here, check out The Fleece, O2 Academy, The Croft, Louisianna, Bierkeller etc etc. Rock on! JamieMillsBass
So overall it seems that there is a decent enough wee scene then? Anyone happen to know of a drummer, guitarist (or two) and singer looking for a band?? lol
bartelby
The Exchange as well. Run by the guy/s who run The Croft IIRC. The Cooler occasionally puts of decent gigs too. Edited September 8, 2012 by bartelby
grahamd
Worth keeping an eye in the Thekla too. Mostly indie but occasional gems like the Melvins
