Chris2112
I was just going through a few items of material this afternoon, enjoying my new Warwick Thumb when I recalled the fun I've had playing 'Step into Christmas' by Elton John (probably the only EJ song I would ever bother with). This one was always a hit when I used to work in a hotel, and in the band we usually do a few Christmas numbers at that time of year. Generally, we dust them off in late October and within a couple of days they are back up to scratch. Does anyone dig them out very early? I've worked with bandleaders before who would have the whole band rehearsing them now on the philosophy that the Christmas season is the most lucrative for bands and that you can make or break your reputation (and a whole year of bookings) on a Christmas gig. Seems like a smart idea, if you're in it for the money!
Lozz196
Never, as every year I suggest A Merry Jingle by The Greedies (Sex Pistols & Thin Lizzy) the rest of the band get selective deafness
deanovw
Normally in the car park before we go on.
pietruszka
Normally in the car park before we go on.
If only we had that amount of time! We've done it as we're about to play it! Last Christmas I think it was, the singer/guitarist shouts the chords over and then counts us in. Usually it's a case of, "ok, let's learn this for the next gig". We'd learn it, no rehearsal and then gig it. And some tracks weren't the easiest due to rearranging them for a 3 piece, Ashes to Ashes was one! Dan
JTUK
only will do a couple and we will use a chart and do them on the night. Not going to rehearse songs we will do for a couple of gigs at most.
paul_5
we'll generally have a run-through at the rehearsal before the gig, but we don't tend to bother too much with them.
Norris
I think I rehearsed once. Is the answer 1986?
icastle
With my main band, as it's always going to be covers, the rehearsal just prior to the gig. We've decided to get a bit 'posh' with the folk band this year and have already started working on some traditional xmas folk tunes and associated malarkey. gelfin
21st December seems logical for the OP.
Adrenochrome
Never. I might get talked into fumbling my way through a version of that Slade song if a gig is going well. I'd imagine for a pop/rock covers band a couple of Christmas numbers would be expected.
