chrisasp Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 Hi. Anyone's advice would be much appreciated. I run a markbass little mark 3 and mark 102 2 x 10 8 ohm cab. after last nights gig I smelled a strange hot plastic smell from my cab. I presume something's getting hot in there. I do not have the head cranked , was using a quality speaker cable so bit confused. Only thing I can think of was that I used my microsynth a bit more at that particular gig and the speakers were definatly sucking air and I had the sub octave high. Could this be it. Has Anyone had this happen to them ? Cheers Quote
MarkBassChat Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 (edited) In all cases, which I heard of, the hot plastic smell was caused by a plastic component in crossover that started melting due to high power delivered to the cab. Most probably it's something similar in your case. Just open the cab and look at the crosover board inside. You can also take a look at the tweeter (if there is one in your cab). chrisasp Posted September 10, 2012 Author Posted September 10, 2012 Thanks for your advice. Is it easy enough to open up and have a look ? Is it a major fix or simple to resolve the plastic component? Also , i dont use the tweeter so if the tweeter is damaged, will that affect the cab as a whole ? Thanks , Chris Quote
MarkBassChat Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 If you don't use tweeter, then it's probably not tweeter. Take a look at the crossover. If something is melted, you cannot un-melt it - you have to replace the component. First, you have to find out what exactly is wrong. Mark Quote
