What's a ballpark finish for a setup and fret stoning?

I'm getting constantly annoyed by my Squier VMJ, and definitely need it looking at, buzzing or clattering all over the place unless I've got a rather high action (granted, I'm fairly rough which'll explain the clatter to an extent), what's a rough ball park estimate for the cost chaps?

Check the Bass Gallery web site for a start, as they quote costs for this sort of thing. From memory its £ 30 for a setup and £70 for fret stoning(though think may include a setup)

Yep its £70 for a fretstone (inc setup) at the Gallery. I had one done recently & they did a good job on sorting out my Mustang.

Levelling the top of all the frets, which is followed by a fret dress to put the curved profile back on the frets (some of which would otherwise have a flat top following the stoning).

If you are getting rattle from hitting strings hard, heavier strings will help too.

Been down a similar road already, I've recently (a few weeks, done the truss rod tweaks etc) taken off a set of Rotosound Flat's, which have enough tension to string up a suspension bridge and are incredibly stiff. They just masked the problem really, I just managed to keep the action resonably low with them due to the fact they don't move an awful lot, but the buzz was there on the previous set to them.

It just needs a bit of tlc from a luthier. Besides, I'm possibly thinking of selling it late this summer, I just wouldn't let it go knowing that there's something wrong and that the buyer would have to sort it out, it's just not cricket really.
