I went to the premiere of the DVD release at the Empire Leicester Square in 2003 and JPJ, Page and Plant were in touching distance when they delivered their introduction. vsmith1 Posted October 18, 2012 Share Posted October 18, 2012 I went and saw the film last night. I was very happy. I agree that Jason's drumming was the underpinning to the gig. He was magnificent without being a clone of his dad. It was moving to see him very much in the mind of doing it for his dad. Robert Plant's voice was great - he's kept performing and unlike others of a similar generation - he's not lost a lot of the voice that defined a genre. Jimmy Page still strutted his stuff but I found some of it a bit re-enacting of times past. JPJ was brill - thunderous tone - but I was disappointed that he played keys with foot pedals for bass on several numbers - I especially wanted to hear his bass on Since I've Been Loving You. Strange to think that about 35 years ago I saw TSRTS down the road in Morecambe and watched this in Lancaster. Though I've been in many other places in between those times. flyfisher Posted October 18, 2012 Share Posted October 18, 2012 I wanted to see this, checked the local cinema last weekend, read all the guff about how many millions of people applied for tickets but were disappointed (obviously) and how they could now see the film of the concert . . . . . except it was only being shown on one evening! So much for 'millions' of pent-up demand. Anyway, I couldn't make it, so that's that. I guess it'll turn up on BBC4 one day. I can wait. Lots of great memories of the gig night, can't wait for the Bluray. Did you see the 10-string Manson in Nobody's Fault but Mine? whoa. As JPJ was also the keys player the natural thing to do live was play some form of bass on pedals whilst playing organ over the top. Obviously on studio recordings he had the benefit of overdubbing to be able to play multiple parts. It's one thing that very few LZ tributes cover properly with the main exception of 'Letz Zep' who actually have a bass player that does keys/bass pedals in full when needed, great player. Great gig though, really enjoyed it - they can still do the biz. The last time I saw them live was at the Albert in 1969! Yep, the bass is a bit lost - all subby lows and roundwound zing with no mids. The fretless P fares a bit better. He plays it like a demon though. Certainly the vocals have been repaired as the feedback which was prevelant throughout the gig is no longer there... I now own the Blu-Ray package and am enjoying it again.
