Clarky
I recently picked up a Fender Jaco fretless bass from the forum and its a lovely bass in general ... but but one thing is irritating me. The E on the A string has a horrible grinding buzz to it. In natural daylight I can see that there is a slight dimple in the epoxy finish (about 3-4mm wide, directly on the 'fretline' and under the string) which is causing this (its either a manufacturing imperfection or a slight ding in a previous owners' hands). Its such a tiny thing that it hardly seems worth taking to the Bass Gallery to get fixed and I wondered if anyone has a quick easy fix. I was thinking maybe a tiny blob of clear nail varnish and some fine grit paper (no idea what gauge)??? Any thoughts people? Cheers Clarky
lettsguitars
Nail varnish wont last 5 minutes. It's just nitro laquer in disguise. Super glue would be better.
Clarky
OK thanks, have super glue. What would you sand it with? Many thanks
lettsguitars
Keep it as local as possible, mask off the surrounding area and work your way up from 320 to 1200 wet and buff the whole board with swirl remover. Use a small piec of mdf as your sanding block. You might find that just leveling the area will suffice.
lettsguitars
You could always use a blob of 2 part epoxy from your local hardware store for a proper-ish fix. Pretty much self leveling.
