Anyone in Cornwall?

There seems to be a strong contingent of bassists from just about every town/county on here except for Cornwall. I know Deep Thought and Shaggy, are there any other Cornwall-based bassists on here?

Yup I'm from Penzance (well, St Michaels Mount), living in London now though. Last I gigged around Kernow was when the Pirate in Falmouth was still a proper cracking gig venue. Funny that you're dreaming of buying a Rick - I built one in woodwork class when I was at Humphry Davy School. Twas terrible though, truth be told.

The last one I played wasn't great, not sure I'll be having those dreams anymore! Penzance is a great town! Lots of good musicians down that way, and the Guitar Doctor is there too. If they moved Penzance up to where St Austell should be then it'd be fantastic! Do you visit at all?

Ha ha! Julyan's my cousin's uncle, I've known him for years - he really inspired me to start playing and helped me out when I was looking to build my bass. Small world!

Yeah, my family are all still down there so I go home for a visit and a couple dozen pasties as often as I can, usually two or three times a year. I miss it dearly, but I couldn't play in Pz nearly as much as I do in London. I did have a great funk band down there called (and I thought this was brilliant at the time) Four Tons of Funk and we played some riotous gigs at Bosuns and the Isobar. Good times

Have you been gigging down there for a few years then?

I was in Cornwall last month, don't suppose that helps much though does it. A drop at Liskead and then onto Redruth to collect my Bravewood P. A quick run to Lincolnshire and back to sunny frogland.
I do like Cornwall, but didn't like the narrow roads with high hedges too much.

John Bravewood's the boss, isn't he?! I've been to his place before, a real treasure trove of bass. Four Lanes is all about narrow roads and high hedges though. What you need's a tractor, boy!

Just over the border up in devon, about 15 minutes on the blessed A30 gets you to me (from the border, not St Ives, where I was last month, nice place).

Good to hear from you all guys! I was thinking it might be an idea to get a network of bass players in Cornwall and socialise/gig share/generally help each other out. Anyone up for that? I think there is a page on Facebook with a similar aim, kind of like a bass players directory. It's called Bass Players in Cornwall - can't post the link as I'm on my phone.

Btw, anyone heading to Looe festival this weekend?

I was wandering around the grounds of St Michaels Mount the day before yesterday. There is a new designer, Mike Harvey, doing a make-over of the planting schemes there. Ruffled a few feathers, I think, with some progressive ideas.
