lobematt
Hey there, I'm currently gigging through a Profet 5.1 and the old Warwick 211 cab. The last few gigs the volume has occasionally faded in and out which I was blaming on dodgy patch leads in my new pedal board I put together. At my last gig on the weekend the volume cut out completely so I took the lead from my bass straight into the amp, bypassing all my pedals but the problem continued! For the full hour long first set the volume came and went but the sound was consistently weaker than usual anyway. For the second set, everything was working as per usual! No volume swells, no cutting out. Is this more likely to be my head or my cab? Or have I just got too small of a cab for the head? My amps had some pretty heavy treatment over the last few years with about an average 5-6hours gigging usage a week, does it all just need a good service? Hope I can get this sorted before next weekend!! Cheers
JTUK
More likely to be the amp..unless you have an active bass.... in which case I'd make sure it isn't the battery starting to fade. It sounds like the output stage on the amp is having problems so I'd get it down to a tech as soon as poss... as it could die at the wrong time. But you can try and help pinpoint which compoent by swapping out the cabs and seeing if the problem remains with different cabs.. so at least you can go to the tech and say it is definitely the amp. Musky
Like JTUK says, it's most likely the amp failing, but if you haven't already done so change your instrument cable to eliminate that as a cause. It can be worth cleaning your input sockets as well, as dirty sockets can cause the symptoms you describe.

cheddatom
I've had this problem in a couple of amps. Replacing the power caps seemed to be the most common suggestion, and did work for me. No idea if this is good advice or not!
lobematt
Yeah just a passive bass, will try swapping out my cables and testing it with different cabs. Will let you know how I get on, cheers!!
Graham
I was going to say check your cables too, I thought I had a fault with my EBS before I realised I'd used the same cable each time and that was fortunately where the problem lay
