Pete Academy Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 Here's a song from the forthcoming Donald Fagen solo album, Sunken Condos, released next month. Nice groove and tasty playing by Freddie Washington, I presume. AntLockyer Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 Could quite easily have been an extra track from the Night fly. Quote
ezbass Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 Thanks for the heads up Pete, now playing as I type, nice. Quote
xilddx Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 Heard it last night. It's ok, same old same old really though. Quote

I felt the same about "Morph the Cat" despite many plays in the hope that it might have grown on me. I kept on getting that "deja vous" feeling. Quote
yorks5stringer Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 I heard the drumming was laid down by one of the trumpet players... Quote
risingson Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 Not so inspiring sounding anymore. One of the reasons I like Steely Dan's older stuff like Aja or The Royal Scam was because whilst it was modern sounding at the time, there were limitations to the amount that they could take things in the studio and I like the sounds of those limitations. Nowadays it's just way too clinical. The song itself is nothing not heard before, the lyrics don't seem up to Fagan's witty usual standards. Quote

Pete Academy Posted September 18, 2012 Author Posted September 18, 2012 Be interesting to hear the rest of the album. Quote
Doddy Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 It's ok. The verse kind of reminds me of 'Deacon Blues',but I think that the chorus is a bit weak. I don't think it stacks up against anything on 'The Nightfly',but then again I don't think he's done much recently that does. Quote

I think every artist peaks and then can't live up to that album. Quote
