I am thinking of getting a decent practice amp as I am fed up lifting my 2x12 up 28 stairs in the middle of the night after gigs etc etc. Can anybody suggest a nice amp for the house? Im wanting to get a used amp for maybe £150 max but hopefully a lot less.

Any suggestions?

Colin

I'm loving headphone amps at the moment. Tried a couple and my favourite two are the EHX

for stowing in my gig bag, but the best I've had is this monster:

The Line in feature is really helpful for playing along to setlists for covers bands and it also covers all of my recording needs and does a lovely line in dirt too! Happy days.

If you really want a a speaker then there's a chap selling a Roland Cube on here...

I use a Fender Rumble 15, which sounds surprisingly nice and is more than loud enough for house use. I think they're well within your budget

I use a Hartke kickback 10. Discontinued but I picked mine up for £125. It's not much bigger than a practice amp but also does for practice with a drummer and the odd gig using a bit of DI.

Most of my practice is with a Jam mate hipster headphone amp http://www.boomerangsounds.co.uk/product.php/3196/jammate-hipster-ppgm

I have a Behringer 90-watt amp for practice. 12" speaker, two channels (one shaped and useful, the other bland), EQ, and some other features. Great for practice, and about $180 (110 pounds). In the mornings, to practice before my wife gets up, I use a headphone amp from Vox. Cheap and does the job.

Line 6 Studio 110, 75w 1x10, good sounding models, line in for MP3/CD, headphone and a proper modelled DI output that sounds very good recorded... it's a 1 foot cube.

You can have mine for £130...!

Lovely sounds from these amps. I also like (and have) the Ampeg BA-108. 25 watts, more than enough for home use (never goes over 3 on volume). Costs around £100.

I used to use a Vox Venue 30 Bass combo. A nice smallish 1x12. Ironically, it weighs more than my Markbass 2x10 combo, despite being about 1/3 of the size!

Why not just get a small 1x10 (1x12) cab to plug the GB into & leave that at home?

Hi,

I use a Roland Micro Cube Bass RX, I found it great as practice amp and great to be used with the headphones (stereo effects, amp sim, drum, line in, line out) and also it can run on batteries for long hrs.

Tx,

Geeeeepers!!! Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. So in summary amongst other amps a few people are suggesting a line 6 studio 110 and a few suggesting a rolland bass cube 30 which I had considered. There is a guy on the for sale forum selling one so maybe I'll drop him a pm.

Cheers all and thanks for your suggestions.

I had thought about getting a small cab for the GB but even though it would take a couple of minutes to plug in etc its just another hassle and I would like to just have an amp thats ready to go!

Dunno how loud you wanna go, but I found a Marshall B25 MkII a few years ago for £20 and it's been great for having a quick play when I can't be bothered to get everything set up. Sounds pretty nice, and as long as you don't want to play with a drummer you're good to go. Got a headphone out too!

Same here, been using one for a couple of years now. Lots of effect options, nice and loud for its 30w 10" size. And I do believe there's one for sale in our very own classifieds section...
