police squad Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 my wife wants to go and see him live now. She plays with a pick and hates slapping but she's realised how good he is. Level 42 playing in Folkestone soon. I'll get tickets today Quote
Stacker Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 Missed it due to work. Met him backastage at a small club gig up here, back in the early '80s. I had a quick chat with him but he had a couple of dames hanging around him (and a Jazz cigarette) so I didn't stay too long. He had the pearl white JD and the all-in-one Trace 8 x 10 rig and what looked like a Yamaha delay. Quote
BigRedX Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012
He's still using TC, it's spec'd on the riders when he isn't able to take his own stuff (whether the local supply companies can provide it is an entirely different issue). My guess is that Mark took only his bass and the BBC's production just sourced "a bass amp" and a TE amp arrived at the studio.
I thought the whole point of endorsing gear when you're at MK's level was that you could phone up the manufacturer/distributer at say "I'm going to doing a TV programme next week make sure there's an amp at the studio for the filming". Bit of a slip up on someone's part IMO. Quote
blamelouis Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 Great to see a britfunk legend on the box ! Great player and great guy . Quote

Lozz196 Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012
Wasn't Jean-Jacques Burnel on a while back too talking about No More Heroes ? There must be a bass player on the production team. Sweepstake as to who will be next ?
Yes, definately someone on there wanting to raise the profile of the bass. Quote
Conan Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 That was fun! I enjoyed that. Horrible bass tone, but everyone was having a good time - so who cares? I think there is some mileage in that... Quote

BassBod Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 Great to see him getting some prime time...but did anyone else see the Banjer in his studio? Now I'm worried..... Quote
KiOgon Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012
Do you think there's a bass player on the production team at the one show? Last week Pino, this week Mark King - great stuff. And didn't they both come across as nice blokes?
Don't forget Herbie's WotWS a few weeks back http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBXUP5GqYJs Quote
Guest markinthegreen Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 Well that wasn't cringy at all was it? Quote
nottswarwick Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 Why is he using a plec though? Sure, I use both plec and fingers, as the song demands, but Jackson 5 with fingers surely. He has a nice fingerstyle technique too. Quote
4000 Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012
Why is he using a plec though?
Because he wants to? Quote

simonc61 Posted September 21, 2012 Author Posted September 21, 2012 John Taylor on breakfast TV this morning - what's going on? All these players seem to be exceedingly nice chaps too. Quote
+1 With the thanks (I used to have oneof those TE combo's) and was always fiddling with it trying to get it to sound nice . Edited September 21, 2012 by Highfox Quote
