visog
And the response is "Eh....whatever." Amazing. Jaco's best, if not some of THE best bass playing anyone has ever recorded.
Really!? - I always thought it was a waste of Jaco. And I find ADM's compositions a bit rambling. Each to his own - I'll stick with the Metheny/Mitchell/Zawinul/solo versions of Jaco which are the best IMHO. BetaFunk
Another early favourite: Mike Stern 'Goodbye Again'
I bought this vinyl LP on it's release in 1986 and it's still one of my favourite albums. I don't think that Mike Stern has ever bettered it plus you get the bonus of Jaco on one track.
BetaFunk
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZE8dp-107U It's worth sticking with this as it turns into something very much like The Headhunters were doing in the 70s.

BassBus
I went to see Preston Glasgow Lowe recently in Hexham. Great gig. Kevin Glasgow is a member here and a player of emence ability. Sort of a drum 'n' bass groove... leschirons
I love this bunch. I have whole UZEB evenings sometimes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gStp6VjkoUE
Bilbo
UZEB always felt like me to be proof of the idea that technique without passion, flair and creativity was a pointless endeavour. They can play their asses off but I hear no beauty or warmth in it. Fusion for mathematicians.

Bilbo
I want to like Caron but he does nothing for me. Same as Jeff Berlin. Great players but emotionally barren.
I agree with most of that but i was one of the fortunate few to hear them in the very small Cellar Bar at the Bracknell Jazz Festival in 1981. They were amazing and probably the unexpected highlight of the weekend for those present. Their later CDs were much slicker than that evening. toneknob
Thanks for the JLP clips above. My attention was grabbed by the recent transcription of "The Struggle Of The Turtle To The Ocean (part 3)" that appeared in Bass Player Magazine... Bilbo
Can people label their video links? 'Try this....' is no good for those who have a work computer that won't recognise yourtube videos. I can listen to Spotify etc on my Kindle and can load links but only if I know what the tunes/bands are.
