Only recently discovered Alex Machacek, great guitar player. For those into music based around improvisation check out the CD 'Improvisation' featuring Machacek, Matthew Garrison and Jeff Sipe. Its heavy listening but the standard of playing is off this planet

No one has mentioned Return To Forever, Stan's the man, and the combination of him Corea, Lenny White and Al Dimeola has its moments. Or what about Mahavishnu Orchestra, Billy Cobham is 'god of drums' in my book (although I always thought Rick Laird was a bit mediocre). Isn't Jazz Funk fusion? Love everything funky from Stan, Marcus to the Brand New Heavies etc.

After all - Funk is its own reward !!!

I don't really get the negative comments about fusion. Every genre of music has it's stronger and weaker moments. (shrug). I guess I got into it at a young age - I found a vinyl copy of 'Hymn of the Seventh Galaxy' for a few bucks when I started playing bass and bought it because I liked the cover - lucky find, and listening to it blew my mind.

Even better live, i caught their show in Manchester earlier in the year, the best band ive ever seen. Guthrie, Bryan Beller and Marco are all absolute monster players. Among the very best in the world without a shadow of doubt
