Yet you keep coming back... Only kidding. Rough and ready funk - but still hits the spot for me, lots of energy. dmz Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 This is a nice little ditty....... ...Laurence Cottle on his fretless Wal I (very much) suspect. Quote
BassBus Posted October 4, 2012 Author Posted October 4, 2012 Some marvelous musicianship from one of Billy Cobham's lineups. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OuTxLVT41c8 Quote
funkypenguin Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 That Billy Cobham video is fantastic!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKGl4gjoO9A&feature=related Only recently discovered Alex Machacek, great guitar player. For those into music based around improvisation check out the CD 'Improvisation' featuring Machacek, Matthew Garrison and Jeff Sipe. Its heavy listening but the standard of playing is off this planet http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7oQPCmbWA8&feature=fvwrel Quote
Spoombung Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 For me, this is a good example of where 'fusion' is going now. Much more interesting than a lot of the historical examples above, IMO. http://youtu.be/5hVhSBZz2qI Quote

JapanAxe Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 (edited) To me, fusion is a bit like dogging. I have no objection to people doing it if that's what they want, just don't ask me to join in! EDIT: Or watch for that matter. Edited October 5, 2012 by JapanAxe Quote
ossie Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 No one has mentioned Return To Forever, Stan's the man, and the combination of him Corea, Lenny White and Al Dimeola has its moments. Or what about Mahavishnu Orchestra, Billy Cobham is 'god of drums' in my book (although I always thought Rick Laird was a bit mediocre). Isn't Jazz Funk fusion? Love everything funky from Stan, Marcus to the Brand New Heavies etc. After all - Funk is its own reward !!! Quote

OzMike Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 That Aristocrats stuff is fantastic, thanks for putting it up! There is one pretty decent - IMHO - fusion band that plays locally here in Estonia, Phlox: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIcIpzx2Lbs&feature=relmfu I don't really get the negative comments about fusion. Every genre of music has it's stronger and weaker moments. (shrug). I guess I got into it at a young age - I found a vinyl copy of 'Hymn of the Seventh Galaxy' for a few bucks when I started playing bass and bought it because I liked the cover - lucky find, and listening to it blew my mind. Among the very best in the world without a shadow of doubt Edited October 5, 2012 by funkypenguin Quote
RoRi Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 Chlorine Free playing live one of the songs of their CD/LP "Start fresh" (2011). (My favourite CD of that year). Quote
BassBus Posted October 8, 2012 Author Posted October 8, 2012 Nice stuff. I don't think I've ever heard a flute in fusion before. Have to dig mine out and have a go again. Quote
