Doddy Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 I'm not going to post clips, because I'll be here all night,but........ I'm a big fan of Dave Weckl...after I saw him with Mike Stern,I can honestly say that he is possibly the best drummer I've heard. Of course I dig Steve Gadd too. But then there are guys like Jeff Hamilton,Gregg Bissonette,Jojo Mayer, Tommy Igoe,Vinnie Colaiute (of course),Billy Cobham,Akira Jimbo,Stanton Moore...I could go on and on. I also still love listening to guys like Buddy Rich,Gene Krupa,Joe Morello,Louis Bellson and 'Philly' Joe Jones. Quote

I've seen all of the BP ones, there's one with a reggae feel which is wicked! I'll find it and post it. Quote
xilddx Posted September 23, 2012 Author Posted September 23, 2012 (edited) Vinnie with some fusion wicked fusion reggae feel. EDIT: Mike Landau's guitar solo in the first half is ridiculously loud, but zone it out and listen to Vinnie. LiamPodmore Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 (edited) I knew Cobus would end up on here somewhere, he is a damn fine drummer, and his kit's not exactly too bad either. This guys one of my personal favourites, and probably has one of the best sounding kits on youtube IMO, not to mention that i absolutely love the song. Liam I can't believe i forgot to mention this guy as well (Not entirely joking there, he is one hell of a drummer) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItZyaOlrb7E Edited September 24, 2012 by LiamPodmore Quote
AttitudeCastle Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 Marco Minniemann is more or less my favourite ever drummer, so tight but so groovy and loose at the same time. Dennis Chambers is another drummer I love, his accenting is is unmatched and fits melodies and bass parts so well. Brann Dailor and Ray Luzier as well are worth a mention! Brann really can control the feel of a song no matter what is around him and his usage of the whole kit with great taste is very pleasing to hear, even more so in full band context Quote

Bilbo Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 Paul Motian is (was ) my number one and a lot of my favourites are Motian influenced; Bill Stewart, Billy Higgins, Joey Baron, Adam Nussbaum etc. Loved Erskine (the motion poet) with Marc Johnson's Bass Desires and the John Abercrombie Trio but not heard anything by him recently. Lately I am interested in Antonio Sanchez and we can't forget Jeff 'Tain' Watts. Drummers get a bad rap sometimes but, for me, the whole thing hinges on them. Quote

Lord Sausage Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 I'd have to say Terry Bozzio and Ian Paice Bozzio is class on this, groovin and ripping. (tho he ain't on the picture, that's the touring band) http://youtu.be/Wb-Yxb7mGAg Likewise Paice on this http://youtu.be/fjb4Ilh6pSc Quote
lowdowner Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 Oh.. oh .. oh <jumps up and down excitedly> don't get me started - when I'm fed up with being merely half-competent at bass playing I make myself feel better and imagine I'm a *fully competent drummer... *sigh* Quote
leschirons Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 Sonny Emory is the man for me. Pure class. Lenny White a close second. Quote
