Aguilar do as well, as the SL is NEO and the GS annd DB are ceramic or traditional magnets. VanDv have to be NEO as they are so light, but it wasn't my rig so I couldn't pay too much attention to them apart from the sound. I find the NEO type chassis can do everything the traditional cab does -ish...they go loud, they go full, but ..IMO or gut feeling is that there is something missing. When you spend time on both and try to figure out what is what, my suspicion is that there is just something missing. This isn't conclusive because I haven't tried enough NEO rigs but since I get to reference them back and forth and I own and have giiged both types, I just get this impression...and it is growing the more I use them. If I was shopping now, my criteria after the sound, would be; size to fit the car. power handling, pref cab config and then weight. But I think I would alter the cab config before going NEO. so I would pick single or smaller cabs and double them rather than one cab. I fully understand the desire or necessity for lightwieght, but it isn't Major for me and it depends which compromise you put at the top of your list. I didnt go for the ae410 for anything but tone and fit into the car though, the weight is only just a bonus as its still a struggle as a one man lift (esp compared to BF cabs for instance). I really need to hear the magic missing thing (I havent noticed anything I'm missing yet), but to do so I think you really have to compare two versions of the same cab from the same manufacturer one loaded and tuned for ceramic and the other for neo. So that would mean if someone can bring along an HS410 or HD410 to the SE Bass Bash we could do a meaningful comparison Anything else and you aren't really comparing like with like, and there are too many other variables clouding any judgement you make IMO. JTUK Posted September 25, 2012 Share Posted September 25, 2012 Fully agree that there are too many variables to be conclusive but my fave cabs of late have been ceramic..or rather one ceramic and my least fave cabs..by varying degrees just happen to ALL be NEO. And in that NEO group have been Markbass, GK, Ampeg, Berg, VanDv and my own NEO converstion in SWR. I do run a NEO rig and it has it uses and is by no means bad at all...but I am wondering whether to trade it out for AG SL's...which are NEO.. or DB's which aren't. A real pain to lug around but sounds amazing with my GK800rb, also sounded great with 100watt valve heads; paired very well with the '70s V4B I used to have, quite an SVT beater for a mortal like me. I was astounded how much louder the same settings (at gigs and rehearsals) were when going from an SVT410e, which is a nice sounding cab otherwise. I can't quote specs, but maybe a combination of a big sealed compartmented box and 100watt 12s getting worked hard maybe. Good for a band with a lock-up rehearsal room and a van! I'll get my coat... [/quote] +1 I ran a pair of Marshall VBC412 for a while and it was fantastic. But at about 108lb they are not an easy lift! But unlike many bass cab makers, you get castors! For smaller cabs I really like Mark Bass cabs, although I fancy a change and will be selling my pair of MB Club 121H cabs, as I have severe Berg gas! IIRC, it had a 15", a 10", a 6" and a horn. The cab could be used with two heads - one to the 15", the other to the rest - or as one complete cab, which is how I used it.
