First gigging rig, advice needed!

Hi everyone, I'm planning to study music performance at college next year and will most likely (hopefully!) be gigging quite a lot. Obviously, it'll be nothing more than smallish venues.

Fortunately, I have a great bass and a budget of £300 to complete my rig with, ideally, a combo amp that is easy to get around. There are many to choose from and I'm really at a loss!

Cheers. :)

Look for 300 watts, and, with budget available, you could look at Trace Elliot, Peavey, Hartke, Ashdown, Laney, Line6, all of which will do combos. However, they won`t be back-breaking heavy, but you`re still looking at probably 40 - 60 lbs. The lighter end gear comes with higher prices.

A new Gallien Krueger MB112 for £250?

The Ibanez Promethean range gets much love around here. While the little 1x10 combo is out of your price range, the 1x15 combo isn't and comes in at £300.

That said however, there are the Promethean copies from Red Sub too which come in at £299. So a 500 watt detachable head in a 1x10 combo, matchable with other cabs should you need it.

IMHO, nothing less than 250W, and ideally a 2x10" rather than a 1x15" (I tend to find that 2x10" combos project more than 1x15"s, but YMMV etc

If you're still Birmingham-based, so am I - gonna be off touring (Hull, Leeds, Wrexham, Leamington and probably a couple of others) in the next couple of weeks should you want anything fetching back.
