Evening bass chatters,

Has anyone worked out look away by big country? I've got it to do for my covers band and its proving to be more difficult than I thought....

Yes, I used to know that one when I was obsessed with learning the Big Country back catalogue. I don't think there is anything particularly tough about it aside from some of the verse riffs. But in typical Tony Butler style, they are never far from the root. Try using a pick to make sure you stand out in the mix too, it'll help you keep track of your sound and what you're doing! The trick is to keep your ear on the drums. Tony often locks in with the drums and the guitars will set about doing their own melodies which can distract your ear if you're trying to follow the tune through the guitars.

Cheers Chris, it is just the verse runs that I'm finding a bit tricky to pick out but I think I've got it now. As for using a pick....I wish I could but I just sound like my 4 yr old daughter playing when I try :-0

The bass player (well current not original but still ace player) for Big Country (not Tony but he knows his sh*t) is on here I think he's called "all thumbs " but I Could be wrong. He has a web site called "Scott Whitley" bass services or something like that look for him he's your man if he doesn't know know one will. He's a great chap too and I have no doubt he'll help you out. My pleasure! 😀.

TB was my tutor at college a few years back. Thoroughly nice guy and a great bassist. I should get round to learning a few of their tunes.
