Mog
Keep an eye out in Tesco. They always have offers on batteries coming up to christmas. Personally I use Energiser Lithium or Duracell. On a related topic the battery in the guitarists wah finally went. It's been in there since he got it over two years ago. I think it was made by Hyundai. Gonna keep an eye out for them myself. fretmeister
Energizer Rechargables in the basses. I recharge them on 1st Jan and 1st July. As long as you unplug then they should last over 300 playing hours easy. Pedals - always use a supply.
flyfisher
Toys R Us used to sell large packs of batteries pretty cheaply . . . . but it's been a long time since I've been in one of their stores.

toneknob
Same again - Procells from eBay. Pay about a tenner for a box of ten.
casapete
Babz on ebay for Procells. Never had a problem with them, am guessing it was a faulty one off? I always change them when restringing my Rays, which can be between 3 and 12 months(!), and never had one go before that.
