guitarjong
Hi, Currently I mainly do acoustic type gigs, but might well be going back to more rock type ones in the near future. Venue is usually pubs and small clubs and normally with PA support. I have a budget of £450 give or take a few quid. I am attracted to heads and cabs, which I think give me more options for the future. Home practise is silent through headphones and PC/USB interface. Rehearsals are all covered with rehearsal studio gear or my own amp when I get it. What should I be looking at? I know I will get better if I buy second hand, but as a comparison what would be a good buy new? What would I get second hand for the budget? Is this good for the money a waste of time? http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_ba250h_bundle_2.htm There is an identical deal but with the 500w head. Is that better? Or how about this http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product~name~Ashdown-Mi-Bass-220-+-Gallien-Krueger-210MBX-bass-stack~ID~17352.asp Or this http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product~name~Gallien-Krueger-MB200-Bundle-With-210MBX-Cabinet~ID~17701.asp Any info is really appreciated. If it helps I play a Sterling Ray 34. Cheers Jon

guitarjong
Hmmm, I will look at used kit. Just looking at new stuff as a starting point. I know that I am suffering a bout of GAS, but it is justified by the band starting to gig on the back of our album. So I intend to enjoy the process and explore every possible avenue....:-)
Phil-osopher10
That GK rig would be nicer than any harley benton stuff in my opinion. Have you considered; Ampeg Pf series Hartke amps have pretty good reviews on here though you would be best buying secondhand imo as you can get some nice stuff for the money you are willing to spend! xgsjx
I'd suggest a 2nd hand MarkBass LMII & a decent cab (such as that TC Phil mentions). There's tons of good stuff to be had 2nd hand

guitarjong
Again, thanks for the great advice. I think I am probably going to buy new and get a 2x10 cab and a head around the 200-300watt rating. This will be plenty loud enough for the time being and will cover the sort of gigs I will be doing in the short to medium term. It will be easily upgraded when I do need more fire power and I will have the option of PA support if I need it. This means the Ashdown Mi Bass 220 and GK cab (second link in my original post) will probably be what I will buy. Not sure that the Harley Benton option is 100% sensible long term. I tend to keep my gear for a good while and expect it to work for the duration. So.......talk to me about wireless systems.........
