AlanFitz_75 Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 (edited) For sale is a striking Rickenbacker 4003S bass made in 1986, which came factory-fitted with re-issue vintage pickups from the now discontinued 4001V63 model: a horseshoe at the bridge and a toaster pickup at the neck. Asking price: [s]£1650[/s] £1550 The bass is in excellent condition, all original parts and no issues. Action is set low for easy playing. Includes Rickenbacker lined case. Most will be aware that 'S' models are no longer in production and are very hard to come by over this side of the pond. The horseshoe/toaster pickups are now only found on the more expensive 4001C64 model. Specs/characteristics for this bass - horseshoe neck pickup - toaster neck pickup - very thin neck - slender non-bulbous headstock shape - larger 80s body shape, no binding - dot fret-markers - black split-pickguard - foam mute - single mono output. Cosmetic flaws - 'MADE IN U.S.A.' is printed upside down on the truss rod cover - very small surface scratch on the paint near bridge - common to instruments of this age, body paintwork has a slight touch of 'orange peel' on close inspection. This was pointed out by the previous owner, otherwise I wouldn't have noticed – and I'm quite the finick. I am based Ireland, so potential buyers should factor in the cost of postage or their preferred courier. Unfortunately I can't consider trades this time – no matter how tempting! Any questions welcome, thanks for looking! Edited December 14, 2012 by AlanFitz_75
Geddys nose Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 What a stunning Ric would love to own it.
AlanFitz_75 Posted September 30, 2012 Author Posted September 30, 2012 Thanks for the positive comments. It's been called a 'stealthy stunner', and 'Rick Vader', which is my favourite ...
AlanFitz_75 Posted October 1, 2012 Author Posted October 1, 2012 I forgot to mention it in the ad but I'm looking for a sale and not open to trades this time. Thanks for the enquiries.
KevB Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 Am I correct in thinking that with these (and presumably the C64's too) that the 'horseshoe' is really just a dummy cover and it is a regular 4003 bridge PU underneath?
AlanFitz_75 Posted October 2, 2012 Author Posted October 2, 2012 I don't know about the horseshoes on the 4001C64, but the surround on this one is magnetised and the bobbin is different to the regular 4003 high-gains.
AlanFitz_75 Posted October 3, 2012 Author Posted October 3, 2012 New up-close-and-personal pics of the scratch at the bridge and a small identation in the pick guard above the toaster.
AlanFitz_75 Posted October 4, 2012 Author Posted October 4, 2012 Last price drop before it hits the Bay: £1500 Also, can anybody recommend other good online sites for buying/selling guitars in the UK? Many thanks.
Stacker Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 The horseshoes will be magnetized only by the magnet under the pup itself, unlike the 'shoes on the '60s pups which were magnetized.
AlanFitz_75 Posted December 14, 2012 Author Posted December 14, 2012 Sorry I've taken so long to post an update: the bass is sold and with its happy new owner. Thanks.
