voxpop
Checkout this valve preamp / Di. http://basspre.com/ Has anyone heard or tried one ?
ahpook
seems a bit odd to have the valves on the outside tbh looks great tho, as does the bass head
voxpop
I thought the same, the valves would be better placed inside the unit. Does look cool though.
Bassman Steve
500 quid?? A man with a sense of humour at least.
jaydentaku
They are sticking out so girls will have sex with you. At least I assume that is what they hope you will think.
paulflan0151
£800 for a handmade/ UK made bass head seems reasonable to me. Wouldn't mind a go of one of these myself!
skidder652003
Dave Hall does the same for about a third of the price http://www.davehallamps.co.uk/page37.html
clauster
Dave Hall does the same for about a third of the price http://www.davehalla....uk/page37.html
But by the time you add on the cost of his comp (which the Alexbass includes) it's not far off. voxpop
I really like Dave's gear but it does look like it was knocked up in a garden shed.
voxpop
Does anyone know if Alex Bass is a member?
krispn
Valves sticking out for easy replacement? I emailed this guy ages ago about these but never got a reply - I'm sure I stumbled upon his stuff through a forum member who played in a covers band/function band and this was his mates project. Can't remember whom though. Edited October 2, 2012 by krispn
krysh
but the alexbass is only a single channel. I'd like to compare it to my GP lightstone twister though.
Beer of the Bass
The DHA box is a different kettle of fish altogether- since it's powered by 12V DC, the valves appear to be running in starved mode, which can work well for distortion devices but it's not a proper high-voltage valve preamp. It does look like Alex Bass has some parts fabricated to order, which will be pricey in small runs. I'd bet that by the time the custom transformer, PCB manufacture, enclosure and front panel fabrication are paid for, he doesn't have any higher profit margin than DHA does. Wiggybass
If you're serious about spending £500 on a DI box, try the Avalon U5 first. Absolute industry standard (and not just for bass either), built like a tank and sounds incredible.
