TheGreek
I come to this discussion late and can't be arsed to read 17 pages.. Anybody mention Martin Kemp from Spandau Ballet?? Big fan of his work during the 80s/early 90s - obviously the limelight was stolen by Tony Hadley on vocals and Steve Norman on sax but Martin did do some fine work before being stolen off to do The Krays and Eastenders. Stance
The guy that plays with BON JOVI - I don´t like them but the bass man has done a lot of nice work since the early demos. Actually it was he who played all those basslines-Alec John Such was just for the cameras....
Lasermonkey
Colin Greenwood from Radiohead. I think the man's playing is incredible and he serves the song perfectly. Mike Mills from REM. not a fan of the later stuff, but his sense of melody is amazing. A big influence on me, for sure. Simon Raymonde from Cocteau Twins. I'm probably biased here, because they're my favourite band, but a unique style which fits the music perfectly. Andy Hummel from Big Star. Another melodic player whose influence is apparent in a lot of bands, yet never acknowledged.
Roger2611
Ali McMordie of Stiff Little Fingers, some really clever bass lines and the fact no bass tab is available online, to me, is usually the sign of some difficult lines to work out. I have seen SLF many times over the years and despite having had the legendary Bruce Foxton on bass for many years to me they are now better than ever with Ali back in the hotseat

Lynottfan
I always liked Tony Wall from the 80's band King, very underated band and Tony was a vey good bass player, pick , fingers, slap, riffs, the guy had it all and a nice array of Musicman basses to. Whilst I prefer Bruce Foxtons playing/style, I think that Alis style fits SLF better. When Bruce was in the band it always sounded to me like SLF with Bruce Foxton in the band. Still thought they were great though, just wish a new studio recording would come out - nearly 10 years since the last one.
