Underrated Bass players

Lfalex v1.1

I would say the late Mick Karn who played with Japan. A great and unusual fretless player.
Also, Robert Bell of The Blue Nile, a lefty like me.
Derek Forbes, ex Simple Minds recorded some great baselines.
Finally, because he's not technically a bassist, but how about Ray Manzarek of The Doors who played
all those fantastic keyboard basslines.
Anybody mentioned Overend Watts yet ? Anyone with the bottle to go on dressed like that has to be good, its not All about technique is it ? Showmanship has to be taken into account surely.
Wow, had to google him to remind myself who he was! Of course, one of my school days heroes! No idea why I liked Mott so much, still not that keen on the music, but I used to love it when they came on ToTP etc. Goodness, Overend Watts, takes me back!

You didnt see the BBC4 documentary about MTH then ? Worth a look, still on sky catchup or iPlayer or whatever its called.

He came from Birmingham as well, which, in itself makes him a Bass Hero surely... :D

A friend of mine, he used my Rickenbacker bass on one of his albums. (Argus Through The Looking Glass) - Martin Turner's Wishbone Ash.

I saw them a few weeks ago, that album was for sale... Wish I'd bought a copy now, could have got it signed! I'm intrigued to hear Argus played on a Rick...

Well when he rang me to ask to borrow my bass, he said he wanted to "create the same kind of sound as he got on Argus" so I assumed he meant he played a Rick on that album? His own Rick was trashed on an aircraft during a tour. He has a black 4000 model which he has had converted to a 4001 (extra pick -up added etc....), but he likes the sound and feel of my bass so he used it for the album, hence the thanks to Tony Clark on the sleeve notes. The album is ok, the production could have been a bit better T.B.H.

Oh! I totally missed one from my last post..
This guy:

His runs between 2:35 - 3:40 are literally orgasmic. He's the son of well-known comedian Hamada Masatoshi.
I only recently realised who's son he was; certainly shocked me.
