Extra long flatwound strings?

Hi folks

The stock La Bella black nylons on my Veillette have been fitted for nearly three years and I fancy trying out something else. Only thing is, due to the unsual bridge arrangement, the strings need to have a speaking length of 38 3/4", which seems longer than anything readily available?

Cheers

Gareth

I feel your pain http://basschat.co.uk/topic/187375-extra-extra-long-halfpressureground-wound-5-string-set/page__fromsearch__1

Your only hope is the TI Super longs Jazz at 40" and at over £70 a go. If you can hold on for a few months Newtone may be starting to do bespoke lengths in flats. You can ask Status etc but they will have a min order of 10 packs at about £35 each

Good luck and if you do get hold of something let me know :)

I'd ask Overwater first...or maybe Picato? Otherwise I'd guess D'Addario chromes come in an extra long, but that may not be long enough for your bass.

The half wound d'addario extra long dont fit mine which needs 38 1/2" :(

G' morning guys,

I came across this address last night -

http://www.rotosound.com/string_guide.php

It explains for me the meaning of "speaking length" and scale length.

There seems to be an all round limited range of very long strings, but presumably Rotosound do something in "extra long scale". D'addario do half-rounds in "Super long scale" which also seem to fit the bill. GHS do Precision Flats suitable for a 36" scale length but don't confirm that this would translate into a speaking length of 38.5", as per the Rotosound example.

They dont fit I bought some and they are about 1/2" to 1" too short for my 38 1/2" needs.

This is really annoying isn't it. So it looks like jaydentaku's recommendation is the best off-the-shelf option, apart from a custom
length string.

By the way have you seen walbassist's veilette on youtube. Beautiful bass.

Gareth,

Just a thought. What about the D'Addario flats fitted as standard to the NS Design Omni Bass (the one that used to be known as the Bass/Cello)? The Omni Bass, like your Archtop, has a gap between the bridge and string anchor so presumably needs something with an extended ball-end to wrap length. I think the Bass Centre has them (although buying from the US would probably be cheaper).

Heres as close as you're going to get Gareth..........

I needed 38 1/2" so looking at the pick below of the B which isnt stretched to tune you should be alright if your after 38 3/4" . The pack you need is the Rotosound Monel Flats extra long (RS77EL)
