JMM
I've just blown all the money I have at the moment on a few new pedals. Unfortunately, that's left nothing to buy something to secure them too. I'm not looking for an enclosed case to protect them at this stage, just something to hold them and the wires in place so I don't have to rewire it up at every rehearsal/gig. Does anyone have any idea's as to any old/junk stuff I could use to create one? I like the idea of a perforated metal grill so as I could use cable ties through it to secure all the patches and 9V leads, but then I don't know where I'd find something like that. The only other thing I can think of is a scrap of spare wood, but I want something a little more imaginative than that. Any ideas?

lefrash
I always thought a good pedal board would be an old laptop case. It would double up as a case (of course) too! I'm keeping an eye out for a fat enough one at the moment. I'l let you know how I get on!
Truckstop
Cheap shoerack, paint black, cut down to size. Put some feet and corners on it and robert's your mothers brother. No need for Velcro, use cable ties between the slats to fasten the pedals down! How many pedals we talking about anyway? Truckstop
simwells
If you're after a perforated grill or sheet mesh you're probably best going to a local scrappy and having a root.
Si600
IKEA Gorm seems to the DIY pedal board of choice. For an alternative see my thread in the Build Guide (Shameless plug!! ) It's cheap, most of the parts came from a skip at work

musicman1982
Here's mine. I've got four possible uses for a pedalboard case: 1) bass gig 2) guitar gig 3) ambient pads setup (mp3 player, volume pedal, two DIs for stereo) 4) Boss RC50 for looping but I don't want to buy 4 flightcases. I want to be able to mount the appropriate pedals / DIs etc on boards so I can lift them in and out of my case as required. This is the first time I've posted something like this so please go easy on me, if there's a better way of displaying the photos, please tell me how! 1. These strips of wood were going for cheap in the local hardware store http://www.flickr.com/photos/31140579@N02/8465732680/in/set-72157632740755537 2. I cut them down to 50cm and 30cm strips http://www.flickr.com/photos/31140579@N02/8464635127/in/set-72157632740755537/ 3. Made a framework http://www.flickr.com/photos/31140579@N02/8464635713/in/set-72157632740755537/ 4. Glued it all down http://www.flickr.com/photos/31140579@N02/8465734888/in/set-72157632740755537/ 5. Attached the pedals, power and patch cables http://www.flickr.com/photos/31140579@N02/8465735690/in/set-72157632740755537/ 6. Taped up the loose cables. I also added two 'base rails' along the two long edges to give the board a little 'clearance' so that I wouldn't be putting any pressure on any of the cabling running underneath http://www.flickr.com/photos/31140579@N02/8465828174/in/set-72157632740755537/ 7. Fits nicely in a Kinsman KUPB5 case http://www.flickr.com/photos/31140579@N02/8464998099/in/set-72157632740755537/

musicman1982
The gorm board does looks the quickest and easiest. The reasons I built mine the way I did were 1) I have to be able to flightcase it - everything gets chucked in the van including PA, drums, guitars so having anything loose isn't an option 2) I don't want to put velcro on the bottom of the pedals so I've cable tied everything down. This is really secure but calls for vertical rather than horizontal strips across the board (not literally vertical, but you know what I mean, running top to bottom of the pedalboard case). Also it was really quick and easy to saw the strips into sections, the only waiting time was waiting for the glue to dry.
Jack
I built mine inside a mixer case. Just shop on eBay for a flight case that opens the right way that's going cheap and stick the pedals on there.
Ant
i went looking for a case that could house either of my two GORM boards (one has a raised tier so it gets quite tall) i settled on a hardcase HN36w drum hardware case as my mate could get me it cheap, gonna pad it out with foam and it'll hold either board, my head, leads, spare strings, spare pedals and anything else i can throw at it!
