Lord Sausage Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 (edited) A while ago i decided to get rid of all my equipment and start getting new stuff. I was totally ignorant of the technical sides of amps and speakers etc. So i had a gander in this section and asked lots of questions. Thanks to the help of members like Mr.Foxen, Bill Fitzmaurice, icastle, chris b, xgsjx and a few others i now feel i know enough to buy in confidence (even if on a budget) and advise friends. so thanks. i remember seeing an argument involving Mr foxen, fitzmaurice and some others. It involved someone saying how you had to match your amp power rating to the speakers (watts) or it wouldn't work (not enough power) or it would blow the speakers, something which i had been led to believe in the past. These guys basically said it was bollocks and a tiny amp could power bigger more sensitive speakers and the more speakers you had the louder it would be, or something to that effect. So, i thought i'd try it out. I have a Marshall Lead 12, a tiny 12 watt marshall gtr amp head (@8 ohms). So at band practice i plugged it into my guitarist 8 ohm 4x12 guitar cab (not sure of its ratings). Considering it was a basic amp it sounded great.....and loud. Loud enough for the volume we practice at. If it had better eq and some reverb it would of sounded incredible. Edited October 5, 2012 by Lord Sausage Quote
Roland Rock Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 Good to hear. The more-conage-equals-more volume lesson is one I learned in this section too. Very handy as I have a 100w head that I absolutely love but there were some volume issues with my 2x10. I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of a 6x10! Quote
