Shockwave Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 Hello guys. I have a bass that is going to be played in standard and occasionally change to drop D. However I have an issue! Whenever I play in standard tuning the low E is pretty quiet, and slack. Lacking definition and low end that the A and D strings have and overpower the E. I have changed the pickup height and string spacing to combat this but has not worked. So I guess I would need a more balanced tension set? Thing is I assumed that the lower tension on the E string would mean a louder string, or am I thinking about it the wrong way? Weird thing is I don't have this problem on my other basses? So maybe something like .106 .079 .059 .043 gauge would be more beneficial. What do you think? I am very fussy with even string volume and I just would like the problem licked! Gauge of the Elixirs I am using is 105-85-65-45. Cheers! R Quote

Mr. Foxen Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 Loads more to it than gauge. But a .110 low E is what I favour. Quote
