Shockwave
Wondered if some of you can do me a favour! Just had a senior moment and ordered a set of Newtone standard Diamond bass strings without checking how long the low E string goes until it starts unwinding at the nut end. Bought these with the intention of going on my Gibson RD but considering it is thru body stringing and 34 1/2" scale I am unsure if they will get to the nut before the windings start unravelling. If anyone could check that would be awesome! (Hoping it is around 95-96CM on the low E) Otherwise I may just have to topload the string. Cheers! Rob. charic
Sorry dude I'd have to unwind mine to check (which reminds me I need to order spares..) I've never really paid any attention to it either, give them a phonecall, they're pretty helpful
Shockwave
Heya mate! So does the winding continue at full thickness as it winds around the post? Or does it stop just short of it? I cant remember if your bass was String thru body or not! I have emailed them. R.
lozbass
I've used Newtone too - very communicative and should help - they will custom wind (though I've not been too impressed with longevity of the strings). I've struggled in the past with through-stringing on a Ripper (34.5" scale) - I currently have d'Addario nickel rounds on it and the E is strung to bridge only (there wasn't sufficient length for string-through on the E). [/quote] Nah it's not full thickness right the way down. It is thinner at the winding point. The strings are pretty long IIRC. I'm sure they could sort something custom for you if you needed it.
