charic
Not looked at the vids (at work) but I think he used to play a fernandes jazz?
Lfalex v1.1
Looks like a Fender Jazz with the "Fender" decal scrubbed off/out (doubtless due to endorsement issues with the big "W") Note that it still has the other Jazz decal on the "lobe" of the headstock.. I can't remember what the wording would be, though. Sure someone'll be along soon to tell us what year it might be. Is it me or do the other 75% of Metallica look a bit tired these days by comparison?
jaydentaku
It is a Fender and as Lfalex points out, the logo has gone and it has been replaced with his surname. In some cases, he just has the headstock blanked. http://www.learnmehowto.com/wp-content/plugins/RSSPoster_PRO/cache/72f04_trujillo_wide.jpg
Bigwan
Could be a Nash. He's been known to use a Nash P in the past.
Lfalex v1.1
But that's only the first vid. The second (didn't watch it all) has Fernandes (Jazz, not Gravity) & Warwick basses for the most part.

such
I'm not a Metallica fan, I'm a Jaco fan. And I think it's ok that Trujillo played a couple of songs on this bass after paying million dollars for it to buy it off bad people and return it to the Pastorius family. Chest Rockwell
I just followed that story. Just to be clear, it appears that 'rebuild' work was done FOR Jaco, not Trujillo. The post above, and the picture captions, suggest it was Trujillo that had it finished that way. the article doesnt say that Edited October 12, 2012 by Chest Rockwell

bartelby
So when it suggested that Rob acquired the bass and returned it to the family, it should be: Rob acquired the bass and will happily sell it to the family for what he paid. LeftyJ
Yes, I know Trujillo didn't comission the refin and modifications. I'm not a fan of either Pastorius or Metallica, and while I do applaud the fact the bass is still being played rather than locked away in a museum, I too think its current use is somewhat inglorious. Was the bass returned to the Pastorius family yet?
Stance
What!?!?!? I just bumped into this topic-from what I understood, the original Jaco Jazz was bought by Trujillo (and in currently being used by him?)

Kongo
I dunno man. I'm not a fan of Metallica but why is it bad he's playing the bass? Yeah he's a "less skilled" player I guess but other than that, how is it "inglorious" that he play it? I still don't understand this logic. It is a legendary bass and Metallica are still pretty big in terms of popularity. Just think, you could get a big buzz for the younger generation to check out the history of it and then they may get into Jaco's music too? drTStingray
I think you're doing Trujillo a dis-service in terms of his playing - have you heard him in the band Infectious Grooves? Some nice SR5 sounds - a bit like Level 42 fingerstyle at times. He must be one of the most technically able of modern bassists.

I'd rather Jaco's bass was in a museum after being returned to his family and played in a clinic by whoever gets voted 'Best Bassist' each year (or by his son). I have the full collection of Metallica - it's awful through all eras IMO. Edited October 14, 2012 by Schnozzalee
