Shockwave
Yeah yeah I know, I have only just got this back from the workshop, but I have decided that I want to finally get something custom made for me and me alone! Up for sale or trade is a Gibson RD Artist bass. Made on the November 12th 1977 I bought it and got it up and running to gigging spec through Martin at the Bass Gallery.

All maple build, maple body, maple neck and fingerboard.
FULLY working Moog electronics system.
Switchable bright mode, treble and bass boost, compression and expansion.
Completely refretted a few days ago with accurate stainless steel frets.
Hipshot Supertone bridge, which gives maximum adjustability and tone. (Original bridge is included and the mod is completely reversible with no screw holes showing)
Dunlop straplocks.
Truss rod is 100% grade A fine. Currently setup with a low/medium action and can easily achieve a drop down to the floor action.
Original hardcase!
11.5lbs according to my terrible bathroom scales!
Has had a rebuild in the past couple of weeks detailed below. http://basschat.co.u...artist-refresh/ Overall the condition is very very good. some light dings and scratches here and there. The fingerboard was completely refinished before being refretted so there is no wear on it at all! (Unlike many other Gibsons from the 70s). This is an absoloute classic in everyway folks. The absoloute dream for every stoner/doom, rock and metal player out there. This very bass cost £2295 from Andy Baxters not so long ago. http://www.andybaxte...ails.php?id=225 I am offering it to you for £1750 FIRM. Which includes the Hipshot supertone bridge (And the original), the refret and refinished fingerboard. It is pricey to anyones wallet, but you wont find a better playing and giggable RD out there for the same money! I am also offering a free £40 Minatour handmade strap, extra wide so that neck dive drastically cut back! I am up for Part exchanges and trades as well. Looking for some modern 5/6 strings, Musicmans, maybe some more 70's/80's oddball stuff. I am pretty flexible on trades so hit me up! Pickup ONLY. I cannot trust this bass to any shipping company unless the buyer arranges a courier and assumes full responsibility.

lowregisterhead
Eek. Nice, but for me, an instant 'A Flock Of Seagulls' flashback... does it come with unfeasibly large spectacles?
11.5lbs according to my terrible bathroom scales! Pretty light for an RD. Lighter then my all maple P bass anyway! I have also included the link to the sale page on Andy Baxters site where this exact bass sold for £2295! http://www.andybaxterbass.com/details.php?id=

Shockwave
Thanks to Neephied for letting me know that the serial number actually reflects November 12th 1977. Which was the 33rd instument stamped on that day. (Serial numbers were not model specific. It just happened to be that number at the time). This is still definitely a 77' and a first year Gibson RD. FlatEric
Very Nice indeed. I have one: http://flatericbassandguitar.blogspot.co.uk/2010/08/gibson-rd-artist-bass.html these are becoming very collectable now. You say it has a medium to low action - mine is the same - very easy to play. I think considering what somone paid for this and the condition it is in, it is a fair price. Have a free "RD" bump on me. Cheers. PS My RD now has Overdrive. See here http://flatericbassandguitar.blogspot.co.uk/2012/02/peter-cook-axis-gibson-rd-artist-and.html A very easy mod - just need a bit of card! Hutton
This bass is a thing of beauty. I hope that there's not going to be any regrets in a few years time like when you wake up in a cold sweat screaming: "Why did I sell my RD" Seriously, I wish you all the best in selling this gorgeous bass. I just wish I was in funds.

And that's saying something!

neepheid
WANT It anoys me the lack of videos of these bass's being played normally, and showing what they can do.
Here are some very dry, boring and sloppy examples (but played pretty "normally") that I made which illustrate the extremes of the settings - recorded direct into the computer: http://www.ifb.co.uk/~matthew/mp3/RD%20soundclips/ Here is me playing it normally (ie. with mistakes) at this year's Moffat Bass Bash. Bass doesn't come through spectacularly well in the video, it was louder than that I swear. I think I just had it on neck pickup, +2 on the bass and the treble pretty flat if memory serves and none of the Moog trickery on this occasion. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5uHrZZFkF4c Hope that helps. Also, RD Artists are awesome looking and sounding basses. That is all.
