Spoombung Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 (edited) This really is a truly unique one-off bass. American Black Walnut body with a Native Walnut top. Deep set neck made from Wenge/Bubinga/Flame Maple. Acrylic Impregnated lined Ebony board. Hipshot Type A with piezo and FB neck pickup and SB bridge pickup ACG EQ01 pre-amp. Two Hipshot extenders on the E and G string. This bass also has a piezo element under the nut. This has it's own pre-amp to buffer it before going into the ACG EQ01. As far as I know, this is the only bass in the world that has this feature. It produces interesting tonalities, adds complexity and when mixed in subtly produces an almost acoustic, double bass effect. There is extensive carving on both the front and back of the bass all with a satin finish. You can hear a track made with this bass (featuring the nut piezo in places) http://soundcloud.co...mbung/mr-moffat Price is [s]£1900[/s] [s]£1800[/s] [s]£1700[/s] £1600 The price reflects the added features and uniqueness of this instrument. SoVeryTired Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 Piezo in the nut? Wow, hadn't realised quite how unique this bass was!

Chris2112 Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 Can't believe you're selling this! Anyone buying this should know that Alan put a huge amount of work into getting it right. Definitely a bass for someone to treasure!

giblett123 Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 When I first saw this I tried to con Alan into making me one like it, its a lovely shape, but alas it was a one off, its a real shame that I'm skint now!

I couldn't really identify it in the sample track Edited October 13, 2012 by ikay

I couldn't really identify it in the sample track
It will pick up the note behind the fretted note - so for example, when you slide up the piezo will pick up the other side of the strings so the note appears to fall or lower in tone as the magnetic pickup or piezo captures the rising note. ( you can hear this at 1.23 on the Soundcloud track during the solo) It also picks up the open strings too so you can get unexpected jumps in volume as the other piezo or magnetic pickup is also picking up that of course, It's just a matter of getting used to. It suits an experimental approach but if your taste is more traditional you can mix it in slightly and this kind of replicates an acoustic effect (a double bass is subject to this phenomenon to a lesser extent anyway)
