Cantdosleepy
Just thought I'd throw this into the void and see if anything hollers back. Has anybody here ever played for the band Idioverse? I'm going to meet them for a practice tomorrow evening near Waterloo station, and I just thought I'd see if their last fella was around... SJA
no, but I've downloaded lots of their tracks to check out - they've advertised several times on partysounds, musofinder etc. for a bassist. interesting stuff, quite demanding with the odd-time signatures. Cantdosleepy
Yeah, it's absolutely kicking my arse. I'm trying to learn three of their tunes. The time signatures as difficult to groove on, but the main problem I have is that some of the songs are pretty long and have unusual structures. To be honest, I think they're a bit good for me. They asked me, though, so I thought "What the heck? The worst thing that can happen is humiliation at the hands of talented musos". We shall see... ngombe
blimey cantdosleepy, just had a listen to some of their stuff - I couldn't count any of it easily (not saying much though). I don't think their drummer is a fan of the number 4. very best of luck though - I really hope it goes well for you

SJA
they're a band i'd rather watch than be in, too much like hard work- call me lazy! you need to really enjoy playing the music to do it. good luck! beerdragon
If you like a challenge, go for it. sometime down the line you might kick yourself if you don't go. give it your best.
Cantdosleepy
http://www.myspace.com/idioverse http://www.idioverse.net/ I've got to learn three of their songs. They're really tough. This is by far the most technical band I've ever tried out for (I'm by nature a R,5,R,5 kinda guy). The songs are long as well, and don't follow a normal structure. I spent last night preparing, and I'm feeling lot better about it this morning. I've made lots of tabs and notes in my logbook and am looking forward to making some rock'n'roll with these fellas. I got a lovely e-mail from the frontman yesterday evening saying "we’re not expecting anyone to nail it exactly now, just so long as you get the feel and enjoy it really". Cool. Cantdosleepy
Thanks Mr Muppet. I even have a cab now! It's actually THIS (Wednesday) evening, Mr slaphappy. I was perhaps being a little vague. Just time to listen to their songs 2-300 more times before the session!
BigRedX
So how did you get on? Was the experience anything like this?
SJA
well, they're advertising again on partysounds and musofinder for a bassist (and cellist).
Vasquez Rich
I'd rather gargle glass than be in that band! Do you think they make it as complicated and inaccessable as possible on purpose But if you like that sort of thing then GO FOR IT. But they e-mailed me a week later to say they were going with someone else. The hunt continues!
