Clarky
I bought these from Thomann a couple of weeks ago - here's the link http://www.thomann.d...ss_strings.htm. They currently cost £209 which is by far the cheapest available deal (Stringmail is the cheapest supplier in the UK at £234, others sell for up to £320!) The strings have been briefly on both my DBs but are in excellent condition still. They are too thumpy for my small-bodied Kolstein travel bass and just didn't suit my 3/4 flatback (which needs brighter strings). The character of these is very gut-like but with more sustain in the lower registers than for example Silver Slaps. Here is a link to a string audio site that will allow you to hear (and compare) Garbos. http://www.hervejean...aitenmatrix.php So how about [s]£175[/s] nearest offer to £150 posted for a set of barely-used Garbos then? PS, they look just like this (they don't have ball ends, but a loop arrangement instead which allows for simple installation/removal) Edited January 16, 2013 by Clarky
Mr Bassman
Can't you send them back for a refund?
Clarky
Hi Keith. There are faint signs of use - the windings are brightly polished copper and in a few places these quickly pick up finger stains. I don't think they would accept them back unless indistinguishable from new and in all-original packaging.
Mr Bassman
Ok I was thinking more along the lines of being disappointed with them
Clarky
Shame but I have found some strings I REALLY like on my flatback - Spirocore Solo, downtuned to orchestral (as played by Miroslav Vitous on his 3/4 DB) They have the same low tension as Garbos (55-57 kg) and have big fat diameters but still have the typical Spiro sustain and growl. I am throughly happy now string-wise (Kolstein Heritage on Busetto travel bass and Spiro Solo on my flatback). The Garbos will suit many people but just weren't for me (or rather didn't suit my basses)
spencer.b
I know a few people that use these strings and they sound great on the right bass , they do seem to suit bigger basses on the whole
TheRev
These strings work really well on EUBs people, well worth the money!
Clarky
OK chaps, I really can't afford to have this much money tied up in a set of strings that I can't really use on my basses, even as backups as they just don't suit mine. I have put them on eBay with a B-I-N of £149 and will remove the listing if I get an OK offer from a BC'er that isn't too far south of this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/130793778105?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1586.l2649
Clarky
Anyone after a set of strings thats I will sell for not much more than half the new price and in superb, virtually unplayed condition? Not after any trades unless you have a spare Plat Pro and a bit of cash on top
Clarky
I really don't fancy selling on eBay, losing fees, paypal etc so if anyone wants these for £130 posted now's your chance - offer is for tonight only as auction goes into final day tomorrow and then I am not sure if I can withdraw it
Mr Bassman
I could do with trying something new on my French bass which has 42 1/4" scale and a 10" afterlength so if you think they'll fit I'll give 'em a go.

Mr Bassman
I got these strings in November from Clarky only to find out they are too short for the bass I had them in mind for (due to long scale and long afterlength) I haven't fitted them, only taken out of packet to measure so they're in the same condition as when Clarky sent them. So they're back up for grabs at £130 posted.
Clarky
These are like new and ridiculously cheap compared with new price!!!!! If you like dark gut sounds, worth a try and at a fraction the price of real gut strings
Mr Bassman
Thanks for the re-listing Clarky Shame I didn't get the chance to try them, they are a bargain! Edited January 14, 2013 by Mr Bassman

mtroun
Are these regular or light tension? If they're regular then I'm interested.
mtroun
In fact, just re-reading the thread, I'd be interested in the D & G.
Rabbie
Oh well, this sounds very promising, if you take the D & G, I'll take the E & A and that's it done. We just need Mr Bassman to confirm now...
Well Rabbie would like the E & A and has suggested an £80 / £50 split how does that sound? Edited January 16, 2013 by Mr Bassman
Rabbie
It would be fairer £65 each of course, but even £70-£60 would do me
mtroun
I believe that Bridgewood and Neizert sell Velvet Singles at equal prices for each string, so I don't mind paying 65.
