Sean Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 The Stones' new single Doom and Gloom is obviously in existence just to help sell yet another greatest hits collection but I was pleasantly surprised. Sure, it's formulaic latter day Rolling Stones fayre but it's the best thing they've done in years. Darryl's a bit buried in the mix and Ronnie Wood's contribution is phoned in but I like it. Quote
gjones Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 yes not bad.........these young whippersnappers will go far. Quote

dincz Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 Not bad at all, although I did find myself singing Brown Sugar after listening. Quote

dr_skitz Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 it's a fairly catchy standard - at the risk of going slightly OT - does anyone else think the main guitar riff distortion is provided by a harmonic percolator? Quote
KiOgon Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 TBH bit sick of it already Radio 2 have been playing it to death IMO, I keep thinking there's bits of several previous in it, not exactly new & original - more like a mash of some of the riffs Keef can still remember bits from & lyrics Shagger has embedded in his grey matter somewhere Can't imagine it sounding good live, if they actually play it live, sorry chaps. RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 Just heard it now. Best thing they've done for years. Very similar to something off exile? Btw , gigs are being announced . 2 (eventually 4) gigs at O2 in November . Tour next year? Quote
PaulWarning Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 isn't the riff very similar to Quo's Red Sky? Quote
Dave Vader Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 I like it, it sounds like the Stones. This is a good thing. Quote

PaulWarning Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 if you like the Stones you'll probably like this record, if you don't you probably won't. Quote
Big_Stu Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 It's probably the same for any band that's been going for donkey's years. Punters go to see them to hear the classic hits from years ago & anything new for the majority is just filler until the next classic comes along in the set list. It's certainly my experience of seeing the Stones, Quo, Slade (when they did tour), Bowie & I'll think of the rest later...... on the Stones gig it was (IIRC) "You Got Me Rocking" which was the single from the album of the tour & it got similar reviews, plugs and promotion - but I doubt it'll be in the next tour's set. Doesn't mean it or this one is cr*p, it's just not got a classic riff that you've heard since you were in your pram. Quote
Skol303 Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 Doesn't do much for me, if I'm being honest. Although I'm probably a bit jaded by the recently quoted price of tickets for their upcoming tour: averaging £300! Wouldn't be quite so insulting if they paid their share of taxes. Grumble, grumble...etc. Quote
YouMa Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 They were much better with that jones chap. Quote
Bass Boomer Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 The sound reminds me on "Rough Justice"...i bet they recorded it the same time and just released it now. Like it anyway! Quote
