The fasting showman Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 I'd go for 'Donny Hathaway- Live' and 'Fresh' by Sly and The Family Stone. Have a listen to 'Glide' by 'Pleasure' too, I've only got that as a single but a real gem. Quote
MoonBassAlpha Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Defunkt's "Thermonuclear Sweat" is unsurprisingly funky. Tasteful playing from Kim Clarke. Some horrible guitar playing on it though... Quote
bengovier182 Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 TM Stevens is a slapping beast, 'Thumb' is a sinple pattern but the cleanliness of each is the trick. Bootsys 'penetration' is one of my favourite slap basslines to. And I'm sorry, but i wouldnt call mark kings bass anything less than funky, perhaps a little more poppy. Quote
Angel Posted October 17, 2012 Author Posted October 17, 2012
Stanley Clarke ....... Find Out
I love that album!!!! Great great bass sound. Unfortunately my copy is vinyl, so I haven't played it for a decade or so. I must buy that again on CD. Thanks all for the many great suggestion! Quote
fretmeister Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 Steve Salas greatest hits "the sun and the earth" TM Stevens on bass. It's an entire album of funk rock. Not a duff track on it anywhere. Quote

Conan Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 A slightly unusual suggestion here, but some of John Deacon's playing on Hot Space is pretty fonkay.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUhVGYpO3Ow Quote
