Hobbayne Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 Just spent the past half an hour peeling the protective plastic film from the scratchplate of my new P bass. I have managed to peel most of it off, but there is still some under the controls and jack socket which I cant get to without taking them off. Why dont they take this off before assembling the guitar?? Rant over, as you were. Quote
Jellyfish Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 Just be grateful that that was the only problem. Quote
KiOgon Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 Part of the pleasure of having a brand new bass I'd say just wouldn't be the same without the ritual removing of the sticky stuff Quote
molan Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 If it didn't have the protective film it could get scratched in packing (I know how easily this can be done). Better to suffer the joys of peeling plastic than getting annoyed that your new bass has scratches on it Quote

thunderbird13 Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 Yet another reason why I have never never bought a new bass Quote
AntLockyer Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 I've still got some on after 5 years Quote
swanbrook Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 Yup pain in the ass, only takes a few mins to take the knobs off and do it properly. In fairness you shouldn't have to dismantle the bass to take the plastic off. Maybe its some kind of way of saving the second, third and forth world ! Quote
Hobbayne Posted October 15, 2012 Author Posted October 15, 2012 I was going to leave it on, but it started peeling off by itself, and you know how it is, one peel leads to another and... Quote
The Dark Lord Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 (edited) Think yourself lucky. Just think how bad it would be if it wasn't a Fender Precision you were peeling it off. Edited October 15, 2012 by The Dark Lord Quote
Dr M Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 I bought a second-hand Ibby a few months back - from the serial number, I think it was made in '06. It still has the protective film on the cover for the control route! Of course, that might have something to do with the Ibby QC sticker being on top of the film, but still... Quote
yorks5stringer Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 Not too off topic, but does anyone else enjoy peeling those double labels on the back of chutney jars etc that reveal another side of useless facts? Quote
