Happy Jack
I'm not convinced that it's "all original", but equally I'm not sure what makes it a fake?
KiOgon
Looks about right to me I'd say real from what I can see not sure if the volume knob is a bit shiny Where's Rick? Edited October 16, 2012 by KiOgon
gary mac
I was looking at this one earlier and thought,,, FAKE but more due to a feeling, rather than a rational conclusion based on any knowledge of vintage fenders.

Hobbayne
It looks a bit to clean for a 54 year old bass dontcha think?
Happy Jack
Description says it's spent the last 40 years in a hardcase, so it ain't necessarily so. I was surprised at how pristine the scratchable bits are (anodised p/g, ashtrays), and more concerned at the lack of photos of the pots & wiring, but that doesn't mean it must be a fake. Where are the real Fender experts when you need one?
Chris Horton
I agree jack, It would be great to see some pictures of the insides of this bass
Chris Horton
The bass sold for £2600. Someone got a bargain if it's genuine
Guest
Scratchplate screws, pencil-written date at the neck, worn body and neck, showing age alright. I'd guess it was genuine and someone is laughing at the price they paid! Edited October 16, 2012 by Richardflea

yepmop
I find it a bit suss that there was no reserve on it? If I had a 58 Fender Bass I'd make damn sure it had a reserve on it or you could lose a lot of dosh.
molan
The thing that would concern me is that the seller uses 'we' inferring it's from a dealer of some kind. If so they wouldn't let an original '58 run on an open auction like this. And then there's the issue of zero feedback for 2 years (and actually only 1 item in 2010, everything else is older than 2008) and all old feedback is for trainers, old nokia phones etc. It wouldn't have tempted me to open my wallet. . . Nibody
shouldn't it have (or at least have evidence of having) a strap button onnthe rear of the headstock?
Nibody
And bank transfer only? I'm thinking Hijacked profile, and someone finding themselves either bass-less and 2 grand down or looking at a very expensive fake.

yorks5stringer
Hope they did not lose their money as it was by bank transfer and outside of paypal...
brensabre79
I'd guess this is precisely the reason they wouldn't accept Paypal! A bank transfer is very difficult to get back from an individual unless they are willing to refund it... Another eBay horror story for someone Remember kids: If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.
Rick's Fine '52
Just picked up on this thread, the only genuine thing here, is the bass itself, which was in the US 2 years ago. These pics have been used for a few fake auctions, its been listed at least twice in the UK this year. Bank transfer only....'nuff said. Hopefully no-one got burned, but it was sold, so chances are, someone did. Shame.
