W11ATO Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 Saw Level 42 last night @ Newcastle City Hall.....jeeez the boy can play. Quote
mentalextra Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 He has a great talent. But, there's something about him that I dont like. Quote
Pete Academy Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 I was thinking about posting a thread called: Is Mark King Cool Again? He's not everyone's cup of tea, but he's an amazing player. And please listen to his non-slap playing, as it's as good as any player out there. His slap playing is just sublime. Quote
Angel Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 I love his playing style although I have to admit that Level 42 songs don't generally appeal to me. I rather like some, but I can't listen to a lot of them in one go. Quote
barneyg42 Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012
He's also a genuinely lovely bloke.
+1 Met him on many occasions and can't say a bad word about the man Quote
bluesparky Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012
+1 Met him on many occasions and can't say a bad word about the man
Yup, indeed. Very funny and generous to boot too. Quote
jude_b Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 I really can't get my head around how he can play what he plays and sing at the same time. Quote
witterth Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 Love the '42 Miester, Mark King can't do wrong for me. (thats just me I Know) we're all allowed to like different stuff. boring world otherwise. W Quote
fender73 Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 Looking forward to seeing them at the Albert Hall. Great player. Quote
fender73 Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 ...and PRB on drums has given the tunes a real kick. Quote
hollywoodrox Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 he is a superb player and has written some classic songs even though it's not really my bag I enjoy seeing him play he is amazingly proficient, I think I have heard him interviewed on the radio a time or two by james whale, he is one of the people who would first come to mind if asked to pick a famous bass player, and like you say he can sing at the same time too. does he have a bigraphy published i am betting it woul be a great read? Quote
blamelouis Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 Massive player and has 100 times the talent of any of today's so called "heads" Just wish he'd sort out that over abundance of "mid" on his sound these days !!! That apart top player and bloody nice bloke . Quote
hollywoodrox Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 I had a copy of guitar and bass magazine (I think that was it) around 2003 and it had a free dvd one of the tracks was him and band playing one of his hits live and he had a bass with blue l e d fretmarkers. i think he was playing lessons of love will have to see if i can find it on youtoob Quote
wombatboter Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 I think someone posted this a while ago on basschat...the sound on this clip is superb. This is the Level 42-stuff I'm really into.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ccT4C-nakw Quote
crez5150 Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 I'm trying to learn this (playing and singing at the same time) and it's proving very difficult.... I will crack it though http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSpP7ixw5No
I really can't get my head around how he can play what he plays and sing at the same time.
Eh? Is this a serious post or just an attempt at trolling? Have you actually met him? What don't you like about him (especially if you haven't met him)? Quote
gub Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 There is a great interview with him on soda jerker , check it out Quote
hollywoodrox Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 I couldn't find a biography book on ebay, which is a shame as I'm sure it would make a great read. Im reading a mag/book from smiths at the moment called 100 drum heroes which is very good. Quote

That is scarey! Quote
BottomE Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 Always seems a really good guy. Hes a great player whatever way you look at it - even if you don't like his approach you have to respect the precision and delivery of his playing. And whilst singing! Quote
leftyhook Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 Could do stand-up comedy. Very funny guy. Quote

lazzer Posted October 20, 2012 Posted October 20, 2012 Whilst I'm no Mark King, I did have an album or 3 back in the day, I did see them live once & I've always marvelled at his ability.... Seems like a good man too Quote
