Jigster
The reality is that cover bands gig more. So, there's more to talk about.
That's debatable. Have met plenty of originals bands who gig whatever they can get week by week. Originals for me btw - one and a half bands

But... there'll be far more playing cover gigs, more regularly. I guarantee it.
Benplaysbass
I play in both a covers band and now an originals band. The covers band does pay very nicely and we always have a great time with good crowds at almost every gig. But it is also quite refreshing playing our own stuff in the other band, knowing that its stuff we have written.
gjones
I don't play many covers but when I do I enjoy it. Playing covers also helps your own playing as sometimes it means you step outside of your comfort zone to learn lines that can be challenging. ChrisB
Originals bands for me, I'm not a fan of the pub-rock-covers thing....
lojo
Covers only I have many years ago been in a gigging originals band, but don't have time to be involved in anything like that now, just give me a set list to learn of covers at home , that works
paul_5
I play in both. My originals 'band' consists of a small pool of very good players to record my compositions, so it's not really a band, but it's good fun.
Lozz196
The Daves - classic punk covers, Pistols, Clash, SLF, Buzzcocks etc The Tuesday Club - originals, describes as "If Roxy Music did Rocky Horror, this is what it would sound like"
BASainty
Currently in an originals band with a few of our own versions of covers thrown in.
Noisyjon
Sadly it's been neither for me the last four years due to erratic work hours I have done mostly originals bands in the past and a smattering of covers more recently but I'm looking to get going again once I've sorted myself out with a car again. krysh
I haven't been in a real covers band for ages, but do also covers and interpretations either in my originals bands or projects. I prefer to play originals though - never liked to copy anybody.
Hobbayne
I actually play in two covers bands. The first one is a cheesy cabaret band where I can be playing old cheese like ' Spanish Eyes' and a rock covers band where I can play stuff like 'Overdose' by AC/DC. Its good to be versatile.
