I use a Meridian guitar combo that I got for £65 8 years ago so as not to upset the neighbours, plus it has aux in and headphone out. But then, I wouldn't dream of spending that much on something just for practice

Just get a BassPod XT Live and use it through your hi-fi or headphones. Get the sound of an SVT with an 8 x 10 at low volume. Or sound like any amp. I have one- hours and hours of fun programming it- loads of great tones and effects. £100. Spend the rest on another bass!! Or a holiday.

When you grow tired of playing on your own all you need to do is add a power amp and the appropriate Barefaced cab and you're away.

Enjoy the holiday!

If you do want to spend that kind of money on amps and cabs for home use, I would consider something 'modular'. Get a combo (for instance a Phil Jones Suitcase), to which you could add an extension cab later (say a Phil Jones Piranha 4B - you probably gather I like PJB gear :) ), which would then make it suitable for gigging later.

People will always give you 'their' opinion in terms of what 'they' would do (I've just done it). At the end of the day it's your cash and you takes your choice :) .

Everyone seems to be assuming that the "bedroom use" will eventually develop into a need or desire to gig. Maybe that is not the case for every player?

If the OP has a fat wallet and it is burning a hole on his pocket - fair play to him! At the end of the day, a grand is a hell of a lot to spend on a practice amp, but compared to the price of a new kitchen, car or even house it is peanuts!

Push the boat out! Get this http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry1840036

Blow a guy's fantasies why dont you!

It's ok, I've had the 'baronial tower' fantasy a few times but unfortunately all my spare cash has gone on guitars, amps, cars and bikes :)

This is either a wind up or you are seriously richer than the rest of us. If I had £1500 to spend on gear for home use most of it would go on a bass which would give me much more pleasure to own than a nice amp.

I use a Hartke kickback 10 which cost me £125 and sounds great in a small room. That leaves £1375 towards the dream bass.

If you already have a bass fund (£5,000?) then my dream amp would be the AER Amp One which is small, heavy and sounds like a dream. It will also do gigs if you change your mind. About £1,000.

Wish I had your problems.

Thanks for the comments , all are welcomed and each of you have a valid point.
Just to make it a little clearer, I have been playing on and off for a few years
and had a few different amps but now would like something a little more special.
In house i have an Ashdown perfect ten mini stack and a line 6 bass pod xt live floor pedal.
I have a summer house at the bottom of the garden (16 foot x 12 foot ) which is where I intend
to be playing/practicing .
Hope this helps a little
Please keep the comments coming

Maybe some of that budget should go towards soundproofing? Unless you have no neighbours of course... :D

Home use? That's a lot of budget unless you have no neighbours with 1/2 mile

My bass sounds awesome through my stereo system , B&W speakers, I've no need to even use an amp

I would blow the lot on this: http://www.dv247.com/guitars/ashdown-lb-30-drophead-15h-valve-bass-amp-combo--82375

Or if you are not too fussed about the drop headness then this would (and nearly is) what I would get:

With

and or

I am on the lookout for a LB212, same cab just lighter speakers.
