clauster Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 (edited) Yorks5stringer:
Anyone else ever see "Single Bass": she was called Jennifer Moore from around Nottingham way, maybe 10 years ago? She used to sing and accompany herself with lots of Jaco type slaps, chords and harmonics. I've still got her tape somewhere, "Be Your Friend" http://www.single-bass.co.uk/
I was lucky enough to do the live sound for one of her gigs almost 20 years ago. Bass into Yamaha SPX90 into PA Microphone for the vox Knew how to play and sing and really use FX creatively and musically. At sound check she stood in front of the stacks to check her sound - "You've got 6db of boost at around 4khz, can you turn it down to 3 please?" I checked the desk and yes, there was 6db of boost right there! Amazing lady! Edited May 9, 2008 by clauster Quote

XB26354 Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 (edited)
My vote 1 Gail Ann Dorsey, as of Bowie, Tears for Fears, Gwen Stefani fame as well as her own material. Great player, great voice. 2 Lydia Kaboesj can be seen on numerous posts on YouTube, I saw her playing at the Frankfurt Musikmesse this year, she's fantastic. 3 Tal Wilkenfeld, she's in a rhythm section with Vinnie Colaiuta at 21 years old!!!
GAD is absolutely wicked... met her once and she is really interesting, and a really nice person to boot! Tal Wilkenfeld is playing with VC in more ways than one - which is perhaps why when he has a gig nowadays she is always there Good player at such a tender age though... I think she studied with Fred Baker Quote

Bilbo Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 Paula Gardiner, Gill Alexander, Melissa Slocum, Chi CHi Nwanoku (principle Double Bassist with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment), Miranda Sykes, Antonella Mazza..... I could go on - some of these pop bassists are a bit weak when looked at alongside some of the jazz and classical double bass players listed here. There are hundreds of quality female double bassists that could knock these 'celebrity' bassists into a cocked hat. The world of music is broader than you think! Quote

Stag Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 D'Arcy, Melissa Auf Der Maur or Ginger Reyes. Because they are all hot (in different ways) and have played for The Smahing Pumpkins. And that counts for a lot in my book! Quote

Kubickiboy Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 Jenni Tarma. Currently playing for Kylie Minogue on her recent tour. She's played for Mel C, Har Mar Superstar, had auditions for Smashing Pumpkins and used to play for my mate's band Ray in London. Really nice woman as well. You can see her on page 75 of the current Bass Guitar Magazine. Endorsing Elites strings. www.jennitarma.com www.raytheband.com Quote
