After many years of using my Dimarzio DP123 J Set on my Fender Classic 60 Jazz, i'm fancy some changes.

I'm definite not interest in EMG as i wanted more vintage tone.

Any recommendation? or other custom handwound pickups etc?

Have you looked at Wizards?

Good reputation, good range, good prices!

The only Jazz pickups I`ve used, other than stock, were Seymour Duncan Hot Stacks. Very nice pickup, growl lots if you dig in, and are hum-cancelling.

I thought that too - until I actually tried them. In my bass, at least, they do not sound anywhere near as "clean and clinical" as I thought and feared. They are warm and smooth and, although you could never describe them as "vintage" - they sound a lot more 'old school' than I ever thought possible! :D

i use to used a set of active EMG with John East 3 band EQ on my warwick and they tone is definite hi-fi and insane which is a good thing at that time when i play abit more heavy stuff ...... but i'm settle down now so definite want something less insane if you know what i mean lol.

My Jazz have J-Retro installed so i think i will go for a passive pickup.

Wizard pickup seems like a good choice to try. Not sure about delano or nordstrand.

Plenty of second-hand J pickups get sold on this site. Have a look here... http://basschat.co.u...-related-stuff/

For example: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/186832-fs-fender-original-60s-jazz-pickups/page__p__1823778__hl__jazz%20pickups__fromsearch__1#entry1823778

Do you want the same humbucking as the model J? If so, the DiMarzio UltraJazz are like a cross between your Model J and a vintage single coil and I've had one in the bridge position of my P-J for years. Fralin and Aguilar make end-to-end humbucking pickups that go after their version of a "vintage-with-no-noise" tone. Bartolini have made them for years with various tonalities, but they do tend to work better with a preamp.

I can't recommend 'em highly enough as a drop-in replacement.

I'm definite looking into upgrade, i think is one of those feeings that i wanted a change on the pickup to spice up the motivation of using the bass lol.

I use too much of a Precision bass these days and now i got my new ACG 5 string toy, the bass have no love atm lol.
