You have to admire his get up and do it attitude, as far as it goes. It's such a shame that he hasn't taken the time to learn properly. Just simple lessons, like if you need to take a lot of nut material away, because it really is too high, then start with taking it away from the underside. As it is it's hard to know if some of what he says is out of ignorance or deceit. It's worrying.

I'm not convinced he properly understands the relationship between bridge, neck and nut ( or zero fret as he used to refer to it). I was taught to adjust the relief in the neck (via truss-rod) if minor adjustments of the saddle height did not do the trick. His go-to method seems to be carve great lumps out of the nut and then adjust the rest to compensate. It seems every guitar or bass he "improves" ( his words!) has an action the height of his hyperbole....

he's still got 100% feedback, has anybody on here actually played one of his 'conversions', we're all taking the piss and he could be a genius
I have not played one of his cretins, but I suspect that the reason for th feedback is that the sort of people buying these things don't have the first clue what they are doing in terms of setting up an instrument, so by comparison an MDP special will seem pretty nice to play. I originally found him when looking for a cheap spare bass and an £80 Shine bass that he had set up was on sale for about £120. As I know how to set up a bass I didn't bid, but if I didn't, £40 for a set up is about right and if I had get the thing and it played OK then I would probably give positive feedback...

Maybe I should send this link to MDP, maybe he would return to calling himself a bodger after watching it :D

Sending a link to The Lord MDP which starts with the tech playing a custom LP while wearing a welding mask is probably not the best of moves. Could give the guy some serious ideas

That Dan Erlewine is a total charlatan, everybody knows that the way to sort out a dodgy action is to carve great chunks out of the nut and install an aftermarket humbucker.......
Agree completely ! If you watch the second vid it shows him cutting the nut and there isn't a B&Q needle file in sight ! WTF does he know ?

The actives give it a driving sound, oh wait I ballsed them up more when trying to fix them, I will just yank them out then.

Oh that soft focus vaseline (or is it a beeswax smudge) on the lense. Next thing a few rose petals scattered over the body, lay it on crumpled silk sheets, maybe a glass or two of champagne in the background. Hes moving into his romantic period.

Ok, I'm getting silly with this.

If you look at his feedback you'll see they look like adverts, especially the several by 'pelevincat' who tells you there is no-one better etc. And yet, when you go to the feedback by 'pelevincat' it doesn't mention anything from mdphillips1956. Could be, of course, that our hero doesn't give feedback.

I'm not a Marketing Guru, but even common sense tells me you don't advertise and big up something you've ballsed up unless you want a sympathy [s]f*** [/s]sale. Likewise when he sold the neck he knackered the Truss rod on, he told everyone he messed it up. Now there's honesty and there's the delusion that all publicity is good publicity.
If you are a decent Luthier you don't go around telling people how good and clever you are, you get your satisfied customers to do that. Now if you give them 1000 words of guff about how you've adjusted this and lowered that on an ebay listing are they more likely to believe you've done a good job? Especially given the price point and demographic he seems to be selling at probably rules out the more discerning and learned punter.

I don't think Malcolm Tucker would be too impressed!

Looks better than some of the maestro's efforts....slight design flaw where they have sited the jack socket in front of the v/t knobs-I'd have just spun it around!

Mind for £180 I'd want it perfect, and that routing mistake could have been fixed fairly easily
I wonder if we can persuade him to go into partnership with this chap: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hand-Made-Bass-Guitar-/221156570287?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item337df574af
It's well worth checking out his other ads and past ads too ( from his feedback-yes, I know I'm obsessed). He is to luthiery what Joey Barton is to the French language...
