It functions perfectly in his hands, how do I know he's not a magician? After all he does have many titles like,

Mr Phillips Zero Fret Master Magician?

Mr Phillips Subotonic flux magician?

What's the half goat man from 'The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe' called? I wish people would stop highlighting this guy it makes me go all numb and ache (muchly so).

With the "Master Axe Sharpener"'s penchant for cutting the "zero fret nut" to within a gnats cock of the fingerboard, I wonder what he'll do if he ever gets a guitar with a locking nut on it?

There was one and he did something terrible to it. Can't remember what but I think it was filing in grooves so it wouldn't lock any more, and then declaring no other tech would put the time in to do such a thing.

that was priceless! I love the fact he has a guitar with a 4mm action at the first fret and his first thought is "must be the nut"!

Google should be his friend (but apparently isn't...)...
Working with a Locking style nut your choice's are more limited since filing down the slot really is not an option you must determine if you need to either remove or add a shim under the nut itself. There are many different styles and thickness of nut shim's available on the market today. Most are available in either half length (only placed under one side of the nut) or full length versions and all are available in different thickness'. If necessary you can even combine 2 or more to achieve the desired height across the fret board.
...idem StewMac...
A StewMac exclusive! These versatile "half shims" allow more precise height adjustment of Floyd Rose® locking nuts than ever before. They're specially sized for raising the string height at the bass and treble sides independently, with clearance for the mounting screws and for "bullet" truss rod adjustment. No woodworking! Made of bronze, so they won't dampen the instrument's tone or sustain.

And claim he's set the locks in such a way the tuners still work.

Mostly as the string is sitting in the equivalent of the Mariana Trench. He's a muppet.

I almost feel a bit guilty about laughing at these, but it can be hard not to.

"My set up procedure starts with cutting the string grooves low in the nut and I cannot see how anything can be called a realistic set up that leaves the nut in standard factory form... or maybe I am the only guitar bloke who believes that?"

I worked with a Luthier for 3+ years and he never cut the nut first, he'd always check the bridge and truss rod before doing anything else. MDP mentions cutting the nut in a V shape, I assume because that is the shape of his only file...! If every guitar I worked on needed loads taking out of the nut, I'd perhaps wonder if I was doing things the correct way...

"After the nut cutting to bring string heights across that first fret wire down from 2mm to .5 of a mm, then that established action is taken on up the neck with truss rod and bridge adjustment... while I think of it: the Jackson needs a small socket spanner for the truss rod not an Allen key... as with Washburn."

Surely if he has set it up so perfectly, further adjustment is unnecessary?

"The neck single coil pickup is like a Fender jazz bass pickup with a hot-rail along the top"

Translation: it looks hideous, you could store all your cables in the unused surrounding cavity!

Ha, these large screws at the sides can't be to adjust the bridge height, where are my needle files? Might be using a spoon instead of a file if a nut takes an hour to do.
