lollington
Evening all. My cello is getting even less use than my bass and I'm keen to store it in the loft. It has a good hard case but I'm having difficulty finding advice regarding storage. For long term storage I was considering placing some silica gel packs in the case, but I've read that if the atmosphere isn't that humid it can cause more harm than good. Sorry for hijacking the double bass forum, but if anyone can share some experience it would be appreciated! Ta
jakenewmanbass
Lofts encounter great variation in conditions, I would not want to store a hollow wooden instrument in one...!
Gareth Hughes
Only person I've known to do this, with a variety of wooden instruments, is a luthier I know - and he had a gadget for checking and maintaining the humidity and was always keeping an eye on it - so not really a 'set and forget' kind of thing to do.
