Ghosts Over Japan Posted June 19, 2007 Share Posted June 19, 2007 ok people i want to build a bass haha and no this should not be in the building section yet as i just want ideas, i will be purchasing a piece of mahogany off a very good friend at a very cheap price of ten pounds soon i will be building a five string jazz out of this wood, now this is were all of you come in! i need ideas for the wood for the top, i dont want anythin over the top but i want it to b quite abit lighter than the mahogany, id very muchly appreciate it if anybody has pictures of a custom jazz that is made of mahogany as i do need some more ideas any ideas for a top wood will b fantastic, and pictures to help give me inspiration would be amazing bearing in mind im only 16! haha but i have family helping me absoultly any help will be absoluty amazing, thank you Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

R,5,R,5... Posted June 19, 2007 Share Posted June 19, 2007 why do you want a light top? Personally I don't mind something heavier, and heavy woods do tend to look nicer in my opinion. Mahogany can actually be not too heavy (well, not if compared to basswood, alder et similia). I got 2 tops that i was thinking of selling on that might suit you one is lace wood and the other is spalted maple both are 1/4(or so) thick i'll check the other measurements for you tommorrow as there at my workshop atm,i know that the SM top is good for a jazz size bass but i think the lace wood might be a bit short i'll grab some pic's as well laters Gizmo Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
