Beedster
My pretty much identical 4003FL is my fave bass for massive lowdown bassy thumpy powerful tones. The first time I rehearsed it I was blown away, I'd never heard a passive bass get so much out of the bottom end, and it's such a joy to play (and sustains for ever). OK, this won't give you Pino or even Jaco, but it will give you a whole lot else. Mine is the perfect compliment to tomy freless Sabre, in fact neother can really do what the other one does. I know Dave's along way off for most BCers, but if you want a decent fretless I'd certainly put this on your list to try out, it's a surprising beast in many respects (I've posted in Bass Guitars and elsewhere about my 4003FL, worth a read if you're interested in this one. I'll try to link to them when I get some time to dig them out).
davehux
Cheers Chris - it's a beautiful guitar, but I've just been seduced across to The Dark Side, thanks to Leo and his scrawny necked Jazzes I still hanker after my old 1977 4001 though - that was some bass!!!! geofio
Dave, it is usually the other way round for the pickup output, all ricks have a low output on the neck pickup compared to the bridge pickup, most folk would increase the height of the individual poles on the neck pick up, they introduced that in 2006, they can be adjusted easily with a hex key. cheers George
