Stacker
Gonna have to go on the hunt soon for one with a friend who has started playing bass. Anyone got any recommendations in the £100-£150 price range?

gjones
Secondhand Ashdown EB 150 or 180. Very decent sounding combo with either 15" or 12" speaker. Good sound and loud enough to play with a loud drummer if need be. Quite light too.
hollywoodrox
Are the eb150 and 180 really loud enough to play with a loud drummer? I like ashdown amps was looking at the 5 15 mini but its too underpowered I was thinking of getting a red sub or Harley Benton promethean clone a second hand eb is looking tempting though, thanks for mentioning them, will add to my list
Looper
Does your friend need to compete with a drummer? If they're going in to a band situation then the louder the better, if not there are plenty of smaller combos in that price range. I spent what for me was a nice bit buying a 30w combo as my first bass amp and then found myself playing in a band with a drummer within six months and had to get something bigger. If it's just for practice I'd say cheap and cheerful and keep some cash back to up grade when you need it, if not then a second hand combo with as much power as possible, some drummers only play at 11. chrisba
I've got an EB150 and it's loud enough to compete with a loud drummer, but not with one very, very loud drummer I had to play [s]with[/s] against once.
geoham
If he's anywhere near Glasgow, I'm selling my old Behringer - see signature! (shameless plug - sorry!)
AndThenSome1
As many have said, can't go wrong with 2nd hand Ashdown - I got one of the MAG 300 2x10 combos as my first non-practice amp and it had more than enough power and headroom to be used in a band setting.
